A charity act which the sons and daughters of Umuaka initiated to cushion the harsh effects of Covid19 has indeed gained prominence across the community as several organizations, individuals and corporate bodies have been making donations of cash and food items in the community since the dreaded Covid19 pandemic hit Nigeria.

Since the global health governing body WHO, declared the disease a pandemic a couple of months ago, many Akalites both home and abroad have been doing charity works in the town of Umuaka for the less privileged. Some have donated to the poorest of the poor, while others donated to only women and children etc. As it was observed that almost all the relief materials and palliatives were donated at the same period of time, many receivers of this kind gesture in Umuaka assumed that the free feeding era had come to an abrupt end. Then entered Chief Francis Bright Duru, who is known in and outside Nigeria, as Chief Okpeudo 1of Amiyi Akah and his amiable wife, Lolo Nonye Bright Duru with yet another set of food items for distribution.

The couple who hails from the famous Duruaro kindred in Umunkuta community in Amiyi Akah donated 34 bags of rice, 10 bags of beans, 27 cartons of Indomie noodles and 100 pieces of face masks to the Duruaro Umunkuta people.
