Last week, the Women\u2019 Crisis Centre WCC, an NGO that fights gender based violence in Imo State had an official engagement involving all the presidents- general of the entire autonomous communities in Umuaka. The reason for the engagement which took place on Wednesday 2 September 2020, in Ugbele community, had the two bodies discuss the way forward for the women empowerment program of Women\u2019s Crisis Centre WCC, led by Ms Lesley Agams.<\/p>\n

An Umuaka Times reporter who was at the event, gathered that the theme of the engagement was to inform the PGs and seek their support in creating awareness in their various communities on the WCC empowerment program for their women and girls.<\/p>\n

The WCC representative at the meeting, Mr Darlington Ojy Onwukwe informed the PGs about the requirements for the women empowerment program, especially the ongoing essay competition among Umuaka women and girls. According to him, the essay competition titled, What Will You Do If Given N50,000, has already been declared open by the WCC and the essay\u00a0 is strictly for Umuaka wives and daughters between the ages of 15 and 25.<\/p>\n

Onwukwe made a passionate appeal to the PGs to encourage their communities\u2019 daughters, wives and sisters to participate in the contest. From his speech, the WCC requires that the essay should not be more than two pages. He provided an email address which is wcc2020compitition@gmail.com<\/a> for electronic submissions and those who can submit theirs by hand were encouraged to submit at the WCC office located at flat 5, last floor, Urban Trade House, Achara.<\/p>\n

In their response, the secretary of the PGs, Chief Goddy Amadike thanked the WCC for attracting such a viable project to Umuaka and assured Umuaka Times and the WCC that each president- general would pass the information to their women and girls.<\/p>\n

This competition is a part of the Umuaka women empowerment program organized by a high profile Akalite, Ms Lesley Chinwe Agams, The Executive Director of Women\u2019s Crisis Centre. The empowerment program which is being funded by the $50,000 grant made available to the WCC by the Open Society Institute for West Africa, OSIWA has already kicked off.<\/p>\n
