The outspoken Akalite, Mazi Davidson Agams has condemned the traffic activities of \u201cmotorcycle boys\u201d in Umuaka over their reckless driving and disrespect for elders in the society at large. While reacting to some questions from an Umuaka Times reporter who visited him recently, Chief Agams lamented that the motorcycle boys of the community have morally gone off track and imported some foreign and anti-social behavior into the Umuaka society by the reckless use of their motorbikes. Agams went on to say that even in Nnewi, when a new motorcycle is imported, they importers will keep them for Umuaka boys because they make enormous gains from them. He described as a total waste of resources, the high cost of some of the motorcycles sold at over half a million Naira.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is good to make money but don\u2019t use it to insult people or put confusion in town, if you have made so much money and you don\u2019t know what to do with it, please use it and buy bags of rice for the widows than using your motorcycle to harass our old women and men. Too bad these boys don\u2019t know the health conditions of these old ones.\u201d<\/p>\n

On the role of parents over this development, Agams blamed parents for the loud and silent support they have given their children. \u201dDuring our days, when you borrow a bicycle from your friend and bring it home, the moment you arrive home, your parents will start to question you on the ownership of the bicycle. Too bad it is no longer that way. Today even if a 12 year old boy comes home with a car, his mother will request that they should go and see the reverend father and secure more blessings.\u201d<\/p>\n

On the sources of the funds recklessly spent by the \u201cmotorcycle boys\u201d to fund their lifestyles, Umuaka Times asked to know if the money is a product of football betting games, \u201cYahoo Yahoo\u201d, stealing, rituals and other forms of gambling.\u00a0 Mazi Agams responded saying,\u201dAll these things you listed they are into them. If they see human being they will kill, if they see nama (cow) they will kill. They even visit some shrines and carry some wooden gods. There is no way they do not seek money. As I am talking with you right now, I am totally afraid. The reason for my fear is that soon, there will be untimely deaths very soon because these children put their hands in many things.\u201d<\/p>\n

On the solution to this problem, Agams strongly recommended that parents, community leaders and village chairmen as well as reverend fathers should fight this problem.\u201d If you are a reverend father and a small boy comes to give you some large amount of money, please ask him the source of the funds. If you are a parent and your son comes home with some money to display, please question him properly. If you are a village chairman and one day a small boy volunteers to pay for the NEPA bill of all the users in the community, please question him very well. With this method, we will be able to stabilize the society again.\u201d<\/p>\n
