Last week, 7 young lawyers from Umuaka were called to bar after completing their law degree programs at various universities in Nigeria. Each of the young lawyers spoke exclusively with Umuaka Times.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Excerpts:<\/strong><\/p>\n

MY name is Nwamba Mercy Ngozi from Umuele. I attended State Primary School, UmueleAmazano (from nursery to primary 3). Another school I attended was Inland Primary School, Ibel (from Primary 4-6). After my primary school, I proceeded to Girls\u2019 Secondary Technical School, Umuaka (from J SS 1-3), Living Stone Christian Academy, Aba, Abia State (from SS 1- SS 3).<\/p>\n

When I was done with my secondary school education, God made it possible for me to gain admission at University of Nigeria Nsukka UNN, where I read law and immediately proceeded to Law School Port Harcourt Campus. My year of admission was 2016 and we experienced ASUU strike two times, which delayed our academic programs.<\/p>\n

I have always been drawn to problem-solving and advocacy. Law is woven into every aspect of society, and I felt compelled to pursue a career where I could advocate for fairness and empower others through legal knowledge.<\/p>\n

As God would also have it, I made first class and I thank God for that and the news was posted at the UNN website. Honestly I would like to practice. It is also important to note that one cannot proceed directly to the Bench immediately after Law School. A specific number of post-Call years (depending on the court) are required before one becomes eligible for appointment to the Bench.<\/p>\n

My journey wasn\u2019t easy at all, especially because I was determined to make a First Class at UNN. All about me was just God (service to God) and my books. I read while eating (by listening to recorded notes\/materials), while working, walking, washing. I can attest to myself, I really read. It involved many sleepless nights, unwavering dedication and total commitment to my studies. It was a path of hard work and perseverance. But above all, God made the journey easier\u2014He helped me in countless ways.<\/p>\n

My advice to the younger girls in Umuaka aspiring to study Law is that they can achieve it. A law degree is within your reach. Nothing\u2014except God\u2014can stop you from gaining admission to study Law. Once you get into the university, give it your best and strive to stand out. Anything worth doing is worth doing well. Read, I say read. Hold God firmly, I say hold God firmly. God can take you to any height in life.<\/p>\n

Leave distractions, leave pleasure. Work hard. Be committed to your studies. Give it your best. Be focused. You will make it.<\/p>\n

I was called to bar on Thursday, 10th of July, 2025.<\/p>\n

I sincerely thank everyone who supported me in one way or another throughout my journey. Your prayers, encouragement, and assistance made a difference. I am truly grateful.<\/p>\n
