If what Umuaka Times reporters overheard last week is anything to go by, soon, more than 4000 jobs will be created in Imo State via the decision of a multinational company to establish an electric motorcycle manufacturing firm in the state.<\/p>\n

In what seems to be a serious business investment, a local company known as E.F. Network recently disclosed her intentions to create about 5000 jobs by establishing an electric vehicle engineering and manufacturing firm in Imo State. To achieve this feat, the company signed a business agreement with a Chinese firm, ZheJiang Pukao New Energy Vehicle Company Ltd. (BCBL), to begin the business of assembling electric vehicles in Imo State. This move according to some highly dependable sources Umuaka Times came across last week, will be operational in the first quarter of 2026. The Chairman and the Chief Executive Officer of E.F. Network, Mr. Gideon Egbuchulam, further told reporters in Lagos that when this feat is achieved, more than 5000 jobs will be created directly and more than 19000 indirect jobs will also be created.<\/p>\n

Hear him: \u201cOur assembly plant will roll out 40,000 affordable hybrid electric cars annually in its first phase, with plans to scale production to 100,000 units by 2028\u201d.<\/p>\n

He further explained that the \u201ccompany\u2019s Orca and Panda models offer impressive range capabilities\u2014up to 385km and 150km respectively\u2014combining electric and petrol power to suit Nigeria\u2019s energy realities\u201d.

It is expected that taxi drivers in the Imo State and other nearby states who spend about N20,000 or more daily on fueling their vehicles will see this move as a preferable alternative.<\/p>\n

It can be recalled that about two years ago, the publisher of Umuaka Times newspapers introduced electric motorcycles in Imo State and called on investors to embrace the opportunity and make more money by investing into electric motorbikes business.<\/p>\n

On the challenge of charging the vehicles, the CEO assured reporters that his company has the business plan of installing electric motor charging stations across the country.<\/p>\n

As it stands, neither the local firm nor the Chinese firm has disclosed the area in Imo State where the factory will be established but Imolites who wish to secure new jobs at the firm are already on the lookout for the new era. So too are transporters.<\/p>\n
