As political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to gather momentum in Imo State, Dr. Jones Onyereri has intensified engagements with community leaders, traders, political stakeholders and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), with emphasis on grassroots mobilization, unity and community development.The engagements include consultations with community and business leaders in Lagos, alongside the ongoing tour of PDP structures across Imo West Senatorial District, also known as Orlu Zone.The activities have provided opportunities to interact with community stakeholders, strengthen relationships and discuss issues affecting the people, while consolidating party structures ahead of the next general elections.<\/p>\n
About two weeks ago, Umuaka Times reported that during his engagements with the Umuaka and wider Orlu Zone communities in Lagos, Onyereri met with several prominent individuals and groups as part of efforts to sustain relationships with community leaders and members of the diaspora.One of the activities involved the Alaba Traders Association, which was hosted by its leadership under Chief Chidi Reginald Mbamara. He also engaged members of the Amaigbo Unity Forum, led by Chief Donna Ejiogu and hosted by Chief Vin Ndupu.Onyereri’s engagements further included visits to Chief Mike Onuoha, Pastor Lazarus Muoka and Ugo John Kennedy Duru.He also participated in activities associated with the AUBA meeting, its second anniversary and a book launch, bringing together community members and stakeholders.<\/p>\n
Among the personalities who accompanied him during the engagements were Hon. Barr. Golden Nwosu, Prince Marshal Okaforanyanwu, Chief Nnamdi Nsorom, Chief Luke Ekwueme and Engr. OkeyOnyejiaka. The AUBA delegation was led by High Chief Mike DuruEjiogu.The meetings underscored the importance of maintaining connections between people in the diaspora and their communities of origin, particularly in areas of social development, community participation and political engagement.<\/p>\n
In a related development, the second day of the PDP grassroots tour across Imo West Senatorial District featured engagements in Ohaji\/Egbema and Oru West Local Government Areas, following earlier visits to Oguta and Njaba LGAs.The tour is designed to strengthen the party’s ward and local government structures, encourage participation among party faithful, promote unity and improve coordination ahead of the 2027 general elections.In Ohaji\/Egbema, discussions focused on the area’s economic potential as an oil- and gas-producing region, alongside concerns about infrastructure, environmental degradation, electricity, healthcare, education and employment.The engagements also highlighted the need for the people of oil-producing communities to benefit more meaningfully from the natural resources extracted from their environment.<\/p>\n
Issues relating to responsible resource management, environmental protection, youth empowerment and sustainable development featured in the discussions, alongside consultations on strengthening the PDP’s grassroots organisation.Umuaka Times gathered that from Ohaji\/Egbema, the tour proceeded to Oru West, where party members and stakeholders discussed unity, inclusiveness and sustained mobilization at the ward and local government levels.The engagements emphasized the importance of involving women and youths, reconciling differences among party members and ensuring that ward structures remain active and responsive to the needs of their communities.The combined activities reflect the importance of continuous consultation with political stakeholders, community leaders, traders and grassroots party members in preparing for the 2027 elections.<\/p>\n
