The newspaper has written a lot about some professional footballers from of Umuaka origin who are doing very well. Here is yet another superstar from the community who has created a world of her own in the game of taekwondo.

Umuaka Times has it on good authority that Miss Elizabeth Anyanacho from Obeakpu will be representing Nigeria in taekwondo athletics in the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games. The 21 year old sportswoman according to what Umuaka Times gathered, participated at the 2019 African Games, where she won a bronze medal at 67 kg. She later qualified for the 2020 Summer Olympics. Miss Elizabeth Anyanacho did not intentionally want to compete at the Olympics until 2024. If she did, she would have been the first Nigerian to compete in taekwondo sport in the last 16 years if the Olympics had not been postponed due to Covid19 pandemic. The last Nigerian who took part in the game was Princess Dudu in 2004.

The story of Anyanacho is a typical example of hard working Nigerian youths, who against all odds, hit success even when not expected. Just after mere five years of training, Anyanacho launched herself in the international register of sports men and women whose countries will always be proud of. Findings made by Umuaka Times about the high-breed athlete, show that Anyanacho won the 2019 Nigeria Open, in Abuja, where she defeated Judith Usifoh. She made history in August 2020, when she was featured in the Malala Fund’s “Game Changers” project, a series that brought 30 female athletes around the world together who defy convention on and brake the rules in achieving success.

It has been documented that Elizabeth Anyanacho will be the sole representative in taekwondo athletics in the 2020 Summer Olympics, also known as Tokyo 2020. The event which is scheduled to hold from 23 July to 8 August 2021 in Tokyo, Japan will display 339 in 33 sports.
