15 Things you never knew about the late Mathew Oguike.
2 min read1. He was born to Nze Oguike Ndukwe and his lolo Walougo Oguike Ndukwe on the 21st of September 1933 at Uba, Umuaka. 2. He was the second surviving son of his mother and the third son of his father.
3. He was a Catholic Knight of St Johns International and a traditional title holder.
4. He attended the available primary school in Umuaka then, the Central School at Ime- Afor.
5. Chief Mathew Oguike attended Bishop Shanahan College, Orlu for his secondary education and was among the early sets.
6. He travelled to the then capital of Nigeria, Lagos, on completion of his secondary education and worked in various secondary schools including St Finbarr’s College.
7. Based on his character and brilliance, he was awarded a scholarship.
8. He encouraged his kinsmen to take part in church and educational affairs.
9. He was a top community leader and at some point the head of Umuezikeoha Security Board.
10. He once served as the chairman of the Church Parish Council.
11. His union with late Lady Pauline Oguike was blessed with 6 children, including, Dr Uche Oguike, late Attorney Sir Henry Oguike, Barr Tochukwu Oguike, Ms Adaeze Oguike, Mrs Chidimma Ndinemenu and Mrs Chinazo Ikwunaeme, and numerous grandchildren.
12. Noble Sir Chief Mathew Oguike expressed regrets over the early loss of his beloved wife Lady Pauline Oguike and his second son, Attorney Henry Oguike.
13. He was always thankful to God for His abundant blessings on him including long healthy life and children.
14. Noble Sir Chief Mathew Oguike believed that he was much older than the 1933 he claimed as his true age.
