Two sons of Umuaka lost their lives in the month of August 2025 due to the activities of criminals in and outside the country. Although none of the two young Akalites was killed in Umuaka but the shockwaves of their tragic ending were seriously felt in Umuaka.

First was the killing of Mr Obinna Amajioyi popularly known as MrAirtel. Airtel was shot dead by armed motorcycle snatchers in the Ekwe area along Umuaka Amaigbo Road on Friday August 8, 2025. His death was still being felt around Umuaka until he was buried on Tuesday 26 August 2025 in Obinwanne, his home town.

The next fellow who was killed in the month of August was a South African based Mr Chukwunenye Chukwuma who was shot dead on Sunday 24 August 2025 in the city of Durban South Africa. According to reports filed in by Umuaka Times correspondents in South Africa, the boys who killed Mr Chukwunenye traced him to a car wash spot where he had gone to wash his car in the company of his son. By press time last week, Umuaka Times could not establish if any arrest had been so far made by the police.

Akalites who live in South Africa at different occasions last week, expressed deep shock over the wanton killing of one of them who was described as a gentleman to the core. Plans may most likely be ongoing concerning when to bring home the corpse of the late Mr Chukwuma to his home town Uba Umuaka.

Despite the two killings that took place in the month of August, Akalites also expressed disbelief over another tragic death of yet another Akalite from Obeakpu known as Mr. Clifford Abazie. The late Abiazie died in a motoring accident while on a trip to Aba, Abia State. The sad event took place on Tuesday August 26, 2025.

Like the previous deaths from Obinwanne and Uba, the sudden and tragic death of the late Mr. Clifford Abazie threw Obeakpu indigenes off balance. The entire Umuaka Municipal Council is in deep mourning currently. Some people have called for prayers while others had called on their fellow Akalites to be careful in all their daily dealings.
