2023: Chief Geoffrey Ojinnaka appeals for unity among Akalites.
2 min readHigh profile Akalite and UK based Chief Geoffrey Ojinnaka, the Enwezuoaku Iro Alaa 1, of Umuaka Ancient Kingdom has spoken about the preparations of politicians from Umuaka with regards to 2023. Chief Ojinnaka spoke with the UK correspondent of Umuaka Times last week in a brief interview. Ojinnaka told Umuaka Times that he and every other Akalite would like to see an Umuaka man occupy not only the office of the governor of the state but also occupy the position of a senator or reps member representing Orlu Senatorial Zone or Njaba, Isu, Nwangele and Njaba Constituency.
In the press release which he issued from his UK residence, Chief Ojinnaka first thanked Umuaka Times for its media activities in the community. While referring to the office of a senator and house member, Chief Ojinnaka noted that, “Indeed, it will be a fantastic news to see a true son of Umuaka occupy any of those political posts mentioned, this will actually put Umuaka to another level. I don’t think there is any Umuaka indigene who wouldn’t like to see that happen. It is also a great news to hear that some of our sons are already working towards that. However, this can only be achieved by coming together as one, having one voice and working as a team.”
While commenting on the need for Umuaka born politicians to occupy top political offices in and outside the state, Chief Ojinnaka acknowledged that it is a big task that must be carefully handled. He appeals for peace and unity among the whole communities in Umuaka Municipal council. “For us to achieve the tasks, there will be unity in our community. At the moment, Umuaka people are not united to a large extent. So, with the way Umuaka is going now, this will sound as an impossible journey.”
Chief Geoffrey Ojinnaka who is also a prince from the Ojinnaka Royal Family seriously condemned in strongest terms, the fielding of multiple candidates of Umuaka extraction during elections. Ojinnaka believes that when Umuaka political parties forward the names of two or more Akalites contesting for one position, it will never in anyway, guarantee electoral success for the Umuaka born candidates. Hear him: “In this case, we must avoid having multiple candidates. We must always try to have one candidate and support him/her in any way. This will help to stop our votes being divided. We have in the past lost most of the elections to the people of “ofe mmiri” who have always adopted this tactics.”
On the clamour for Igbo presidency in 2023, Chief Ojinnaka cautioned that the Igbo nation must identify her preferences and fight towards them. He finally appealed for the Igbo to unite.
