2023: Dr Okunwa wants Nkwerri Isu Constituency to be politically prepared.
3 min readThe President of the Houston Texas based Isu Commonwealth Inc ICW, an apolitical organization that protects the common interest of 5 local governments formally in Nkwerri Isu Constituency etc in and outside Nigeria, Chief Dr Albert Okunwa has made a call to the people of the Constituency in Imo State to start preparing and oiling their political machinery for the politics of “who gets what, when and how” in the oncoming 2023 general elections. The Dr Okunwa message deeply emphasized on the need for political office seekers and their followers to start early enough to prepare themselves for the 2023 task ahead because according to him, early preparation in politics has most of the times, given birth to both electoral and political victories.
“The most important thing I will say to our people at home is that everyone should exercise his/her right to vote when the time comes. They should vote for the candidates that would improve the lives and conditions of the people….not those that buy their votes.”
Having noted and complained how past politicians and their followers had in the past, denied the people the basic and representative governance they promised, Dr Okunwa further advised his people to take the 2023 opportunity to right all those political wrongs of the past. “The year 2023 is going to afford our people at home the opportunity to change whoever or whatever they do not like in our current collective political dispensation. It’s the time to prove that political power actually belongs to the people and no one should sell his or her vote!”
Concerning the “influx of the Fulani” in the South East which is seen as a big security issue, Dr Okunwa also cautioned the South Easterners to be careful because the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria allow anyone to live in a any state of his or her choice but however, he went further to advise. “First, everyone in Nigeria has the right and freedom to travel and reside in any state or city of his/her choice. As long as the migrants are law-abiding citizens or legal residents, are performing lawful duties, doing lawful businesses, paying rents and lawful State/Federal taxes, otherwise, not breaking the law of the State or harming the lives and/or properties of the people of their host states…they should be allowed to stay.”
In his conclusion, he went on to drop a caveat. “However, where the migrants are found to be wanting in any of the lawful purposes mentioned above, the State has the duty to do anything in its powers to protect the lives and properties of the people. This duty is sacrosanct and should never be abandoned by the State!”
Due to the porous security situation and the eventful failures of successive governments in Nigeria, Dr Okunwa advised the people to be vigilant and prepare to defend themselves in times of danger. In his words, “self defense is generally recognized as a complete defense under national & international law. As an Igbo adage has it, “Onye ndi iro gbara gburu gburu, n’eche ndu ya nche mgbe nile.” (Any person surrounded by enemies watches over his life always.)

“The Organization is growing in both membership, financial strength & social status in this part of the USA. If this trend continues, as we hope for, the sky is the limit to what we can achieve as a formidable entity,” Okunwa told Umuaka Times.
