2023: “Why I want to serve”. Kingsley Odoemenam. Njaba YPP candidate.
3 min readChief Kingsley Odoemenam. Njaba YPP candidate, a businessman and politician who hopes to represent Njaba LGA in Imo State House of Assembly tells Umuaka Times why he wants to serve his people.
Excerpts:
Tell us a little about your background. Like when you were born, where you live and what you do for a living.
My name is Kingsley Obi Odoemenam. I was born on 8 August 1980. I live in Owerri Imo State. I am a farmer, businessman and the Chief Executive Officer Obiego Group of Companies.
What does Obiego Group of Companies do?
We manufacture detergents and liquids soaps.
Why do you want to go into politics?
Politics is a natural game that is inherent in man. It is part of man’s everyday activity, but governance which is the nucleus of politics is what I am going into. Reason is because of my sincere zeal to provide legislative framework for the provisions of social and basic needs to our people and to create an enabling environment for businesses to strive as well as ensure adequate security for the protection of lives and properties which is the core responsibility of government.
Why House of Assembly? Can you make any impact from there?
I choose House of Assembly, because every activity of government is guided by law, and if proper laws and legislations are not put in place, the business of governance will be in comatose. I have discovered a lot of inadequacies in our existing laws that need to be strengthened to accommodate global best practices. That is why I am here and yes I will make a great impact.
There are about 3 of you guys contesting for this same position from Umuaka and we expect that there will also be the 4th person, how do you describe that? Will it not be a bad omen for you people?
I am very much aware of other candidates from Umuaka, politics is a game of interest, and it is played with strategy for the advancement of the larger interest. The number goes a long way to show that our people have awoken to the realities of getting involved in governance. It is not a bad omen.
If you lose this election what will you do?
In every game, there must be a winner and a looser. If I don’t win the game, I will accept it in good faith as a sportsman and support whoever emerges with my ideas to move Njaba forward. It is God that makes a King, Njaba is our own and we will not trade it for the interest of one man.
What is your advice for the voters in Njaba LGA?
My advice to Njaba voters: They should eschew money politics, they should vote the right candidates no matter the political party, they should put Njaba above partisanship. They should play to the rules of engagement during and after any election. They should think about the future of our children and where they want Njaba to be in future. Vote and Protect Your Vote.
Please give us a little brief about your party? Do you think the people are happy with your party?
The Young Progressives Party (YPP) is a social-democratic political party in Nigeria. The party was created to challenge the two major contemporary parties in Nigeria, namely the People’s Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress. In its manifesto, the party calls for concerted efforts to improve welfare, fight for social justice and provide equality of opportunities for all citizens in Nigeria.
Yes, people are happy with my party because it provides for the establishment of a social insurance system.
What is your final advice for your people?
My final advice to my people is to see Njaba as our own and vote for the candidate that guarantees the future of our youths and encourage social reward system. God bless Njaba.
Thanks a lot for your time. Umuaka Times wishes you good luck on your ambition.
Thank you for your time also.
