2 min read

Since the day it was announced that Abia State would have a steady supply of electricity, there have been reports on how the economic power of Abians would improve following the move. According to a report Umuaka Times came across from Business Day newspaper of February 28, 2024 “Aba Power Ltd, a subsidiary of Geometric Power, will start to supply power from one of its three turbines to consumers in the Aba Ring-fenced Area this weekend rather than in two weeks as originally scheduled.”

The report continues. “The company had scheduled supplies to commercial customers 13 days after commissioning in line with technical protocols, but, according to sources, its chairman, Professor Bart Nnaji, who is a former Minister of Power, has directed the utility’s engineers to provide “power to the people without fail this weekend.”

As promised, the Barth Nnaji firm switched on the General Electric built 47MW power plant and it was like when God said, “Let there be light and there was light.”

For a period of 48 hours, some residents of Aba, the commercial nerve centre of Abia State enjoyed an uninterrupted power supply. The project according to some sources is yet to fully kick off and reports have it that some foreign investors have already started coming to Aba to do business.

A couple of weeks ago, Peter Obi landed in Abia State for the commissioning of the Geometric Power Plant in Aba, Abia State which cost the sum of $800 million. Umuaka Times gathered that the 181-megawatt Geometric Power plant which is located in the Osisioma Industrial Layout of Aba in Abia State is under a heavy security.
