The call to bar of 7 young Akalites has successfully brought to the front burners and focus, the prediction made by MaziOjiaku over 40 years ago. While expressing his satisfaction on the development, Professor EmekaDuruigbo, a globally recognized professor of law disclosed to Umuaka Times what happened in 1985 during the call to bar celebration of his elder brother, the late Barrister Tony Duruigbo.
From what Professor Duruigbo told Umuaka Times, during the reception held in the Duruigbo family compound in Uba sometime in 1985, dignitaries like Dr Jude Ezeala, (Egbendu 1 of Umuaka, Citizen ObinnaDuruji, Barrister Marcel Duru, the late Chief B.U. Okpara (Akajiaku) and many other high profile Akalites were all seated Professor Duruigbo wrote: “During my brother’s call to bar ceremony in 1985, Professor MaziOjiaku said we should be looking forward to the time that we won’t be celebrating the call to bar of an Umuaka lawyer because we would be producing many lawyers. That is, it will become numerous and commonplace that no such parties would be needed. At that time, all of Umuaka had fewer than 5 lawyers. Today, we’re producing at least 7 in one year. The wise man’s prediction has come to pass in his lifetime.”
Perhaps Ojiaku has forgotten the prediction he made about 40 years ago and it is a fact today that the year 2025 witnessed when Umuaka produced 6 lawyers in a single year. This number does not include those in diaspora. This is perhaps the end of the beginning.
