2023: Emeka Nwokedi plays host to Peter Obi.

2 min read

A Nigerian born optometrist and optometric glaucoma specialist, Dr Emeka Nwokedi last week played a high profile host to the presidential candidate of Labour Party at his Dallas based Mekas Family Eyecare.

Dr Nwokedi granted a brief interview to the Umuaka Times correspondent in America on his encounter with Mr Peter Obi.

Excerpts:

How do you describe Mr Peter Obi after your personal encounter with him?

Mr Peter Obi is a humble man that loves Nigerians all over the world. He likes to visit and encourage Nigerians who have their own enterprises or businesses. I just happen to be one of the Nigerian entrepreneurs in Dallas that he visited.

Tel us briefly the issues you discussed.

We talked generally about Nigerians in Diaspora and our role in making Nigeria better. We also talked about keeping in touch with our people at home and making sure that they vote in the next general election come 2023.

What about the reception? How did Nigerians in Dallas welcome him?

It was a massive reception in Dallas. The hall was packed with Nigerians both Christians, Moslems, Yorubas, Igbos, Hausas, Middle Belt and other ethnic groups. All the people present in the hall were motivated and enthusiastic about making Nigeria a better country.

You seem to be a frontline doctor in Dallas. Tell us a little about that.

I wouldn’t use the word “frontline” rather I am just a regular Nigerian in Diaspora who has the interest of our Fatherland, Nigeria at heart.

Why do you have this deep rooted confidence in Obi?

Mr Peter Obi has demonstrated good governance in Anambra state. His economic understanding and solutions to Nigerian problems are top notch. He wants to be a good example of transparency in Nigerian leadership. Also, Nigeria needs a leader who understands the concept of the “rule of law” and its importance in making a society function. In Nigeria, leaders who don’t go by the rule of law such as those engaging in embezzlement of pubic fund or stealing of barrels of oil are not held accountable for their actions. These practices impede Nigerian economic and social developments. These practices and other social problems are what Mr Peter Obi wants to prevent from happening or correct if they happen.

Thanks  a lot for your time Dr Nwokedi.

Thank you too.
