The Biography of Mrs Phoebe Ahunna.
2 min readLate Mrs Phobe Ahunna Mbagwu (Nee) Onyeche was born to the family of late Chief James Onyeche and late Mrs Agnes Nwachi Osuagwu who had six children. Mama Phobe Nene as was fondly called by her siblings and family was the second child and first daughter of her parents in Umu-isi-guzo Ali Umuagwu in Obiohia community Omuma Local Government Area Rivers State.
EDUCATION: Late Mrs Phobe Ahunna Mbagwu nee (Onyeche), in 1951 started her primary education at St Luke’s Anglican School Eberi Omuma where she obtained her Standard Six Certificate. She later gained admission with Abayi Unuothom Girls Secondary School Aba in Abia State where she obtained her Cambridge Certificate. In 1962, she went further and gained another admission at College of St Francis where she obtained a nursing certificate.
MARRIAGE: Late Mrs Phobe Ahunna was married to Chief Vitalis Mbagwu in 1965 in Ibele Umuaka Njaba Local Government Area Imo State. The marriage is blessed with five children, three females and two males. All are alive to morn her.
OCCUPATION/BUSINESS: Late Mrs Phobe Ahunna Mbagwu was a civil servant with the then Science and Technology now University of Rivers State. She worked as an Administrator and she was also a trader selling wrappers. She was a committed business woman, a contractor with Shell Petroleum Development Company and other commercial companies in Rivers State. As a result of her tireless efforts, she was able to raise up her children to the level they are today.
Due to her success in business she was called Oshishi Ego in her community meaning the tree of money.
SOCIAL LIFE: She was a member of People’s Club of Nigeria Port Harcourt branch, she helped her parents in raising her siblings, which during the war she served her both families and all that came in contact with her.
During the Nigerian and Biafra Civil War, she did exploit.
Eze-Ayi Agu Nwanyi, Dede Nwanne Thunder and Emeka Olo, Ada Onyeche, We cannot say it all but God Almighty will receive you. In 2001 she traveled to Greece to visit her Second Son. In 2016, Mama Nene relocated to the United States of America to live with her first daughter and family until she was sick and demanded to come back to Nigeria in May 2023.
RELIGION: Late Mrs Phobe Ahunna Mbagwu was a devoted Christian with the Assemblies of God Church both home and abroad. She was so committed in the work of God and participated in building Assemblies of God Church at 44 Ilom Road, Woji Town Port Harcourt. She single handedly built Assemblies of God Church in her home town, Umuagwu in Eberi Omuma Local Government Rivers State. Was born on 3 February 1946 and she died in July 2023. She lived for 77 years.
