Agony in Igboland as two prominent sons take their bow.

A heavy cloud of anguish, lamentations and sorrow last week enveloped the entire Igboland as two of her prominent sons passed to the great beyond. Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, an Imo State born businessman, politician and philanthropist and the President General of Ohaneze Ndi Igbo Worldwide died on Thursday July 25 a brief illness.

During his lifetime Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu was the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide. According to some reports Umuaka Times came across last week, the Imo born elder statesman died at the age of 81.

A special report on the late sage observed that “Iwuanyanwu was born on September 4, 1942. He hailed from Atta in Ikeduru LGA of Imo state.

He attended St. Patrick’s School, Rukpoku, in Rivers state from 1948 to 1954 and New Bethel College in Onitsha, Anambra state.

He studied civil engineering at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, from 1963 to 1970.

He founded several companies, including Sunrise Breweries Limited, Oriental Shipping Lines, and Magil Agricultural & Animal Health Products Limited, among others.

The late Iwuanyanwu was also the publisher of Champion Newspapers.

He established the Iwuanyanwu Nationale Football Club of Owerri, now known as Heartland F.C.

He was a staunch member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before he resigned his membership in 2021.”

As the Igbo nation was yet to settle over the death of the elder statesman, another bad news hit the airwaves on Saturday 27 July 2024, announcing that Anambra born Senator Ifeanyi Uba has passed on also. Senator Patrick Ifeanyi Uba died in a London hotel under the circumstances suspected to be heart attack.

From highly dependable sources Umuaka Times came across on the internet last week, “Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah was born on 3 September 1971 and he passed to the world beyond on 27 July 2024. Ubah was a Nigerian politician, entrepreneur and businessman. He served as a Senator representing Anambra South Senatorial District in the Nigerian senate until his death on 27 July 2024 in London. He was the CEO of Capital Oil which he founded in 2001.”

As the sad news of the demise of Ubah who was a successful businessman, philanthropist and politician got to town last week, several personalities across the country began to express their shocks over the sudden death of the industrialist from.

A local news website, legit.ng reported the reactions of several prominent Nigerians thus: Tinubu, Peter Obi, Sanwo-Olu, Others Mourn as Ifeanyi Ubah Dies in London. Funeral arrangements for the two businessmen are yet to be announced.
