Unique-85 presents Imo state Secondary sch. Debate on Nov. 29.

Come Friday 29, November 2024, Imo State will witness a never before held debate among some selected secondary schools in the state. Tagged the First Imo State Secondary Schools Championship Debate, the competition has created opportunities for the debaters and other students from the participating institutions to showcase their abilities to convince the judges and the audience.

According to a statement Umuaka Times obtained from Captain Cris Ogueri Chidomere, a UK based ex-military officer and the chief host of the event, the debate is organized by an organization known as Unique-85. Unique-85 is a group of old boys association that graduated from High School Umuaka in Njaba LGA Imo State in 1985.

The press statement also disclosed that high profile dignitaries from the education sector in the state are expected during the event. Two former principals of the school Mr. G.F. Oti and Mr. G.C Onyeche are expected to grace the occasion.

While having a chat with Umuaka Times, Captain Cris Ogueri Chidomere who is the vice president of the Unique-85 Old Boys’ Association of High School Umuaka, hinted that the venue of the event will be at Government Secondary School Owerri and the time has been fixed at 9:30 am.

Four secondary schools each from a senatorial zone in the state will be participating in the debate including the Alma Mata of Unique-85, High School Umuaka. Other schools expected to participate during the debate include Anara Community Secondary School, St. Catherine’s Girls Secondary School Nkwerre, High School Umuaka (also known as St Saviour’s Collage Umuaka) and Government Secondary School Owerri.

Umuaka Times correspondents in the UK also gathered that the state governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma will be represented during the event by the Honourable Commissioner for Education in the state. Also expected at the event are the Permanent Secretary for Education Imo state and all directors of education in the state.

The school that takes the first position in the debate will win an award and a cash gift of N200, 000. There are also cash gifts for 2nd, 3rd and 4th positions. There is also a provision for all the participating students to be given consolation prizes such as school bags, dictionaries water bottles and more.
