Joy in Umuaka as Chiamaka Okwuchukwu is nominated for CAF Awards
2 min readThe Umuaka Times 2023 Female Footballer of the Year Award winner and Falconet’s big fish, Miss Chiamaka Okwuchukwu has been nominated for the 2024 CAF Awards. Umuaka Times foreign correspondents reported last week that the Ugbele Akah born merciless footballer was nominated for the Young Player of the Year 2024 by the Confederation of African Football CAF.
It can be recalled that during the recently concluded 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia, Okwuchukwu proved her worth by putting highly impressive performances during the tournament and at other tournaments as well.
It was jubilation galore last week in her home town Umuaka when the news of her nomination hit the town via the social media and other main stream news outlets. Following her recent performances, many people had predicted that she would be among the top runners for the CAF Awards and will eventually bring home the award.
Umuaka Times made several efforts last week to speak with the young star but none was successful as at press time.
The 2024 Confederation of African Football Awards will take into cognizance the football activities between January and October 2024 and this year’s awards will be presented in December in the city of Marrakech, Morocco.
Umuaka Times findings show that The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is the governing body that oversees the football activities and associations in Africa. The body was established on February 8 1957 at the Grand Hotel in Khartoum, Sudan. It was the joint efforts of national football associations of countries like Ethiopia, Nigeria, Egypt, South Africa and Algeria that gave birth to the body.
