“At first it was scary but my resilience pushed me through.” Chiamaka Appiah Uzuegbu.

Last week, 7 young lawyers from Umuaka were called to bar after completing their law degree programs at various universities in Nigeria. Each of the young lawyers spoke exclusively with Umuaka Times.

Excerpts:

Thank you very much sir for this honour. My name is Miss ChiamakaAppiahUzuegbu. I am a native of Obeakpu Autonomous community. My academic trip started at Linaps Primary School and when I was done with primary school, I went to Marist Comprehensive College Anambra State. As God would have it, I gained admission to read law at Anambra State University in Igbariam.

The person who inspired me to read law is my father. It was his dream to become a lawyer but due to some reasons, he could not achieve it. Actually it was my father who inspired me.

I saw how compassionate he was about the profession so I decided to bring his dream to reality and I thank God for that. I have come to eventually realize why he wanted to study law because it is indeed a noble and proud profession.

My academic expedition towards becoming a lawyer was not an easy task honestly. At first it was scary but my resilience and determination pushed me to where I am today. I will love to practice.

Still talking about the journey, during my university days, I almost gave up and then came the law school the bigger challenge of sleepless nights. I reminded myself that I have a goal to achieve and yes, that’s what eventually brought me this far. Thank God that everything is now history as I was called to bar on 9th July 2025.

My advice to those coming after us is to always put God first and believe in yourself the sky is your limit.
