Mrs Lucy Akuabanihe Anokwute laid to rest.

The activities that greeted the burial of the late Mrs Lucy Akuabanihe Anokwute which took place in Umuduruorji  Acharaji in Umuaka last week went as planned. As God would have it, there was no sign of any tragic incident before, during and after the burial.

The final tributes to the late Woman of Substance which unfolded in Umuaka, Imo State, started on Thursday, November 27, 2025 when family, friends, and well-wishers gathered at her husband’s family compound in Umuduruorji Acharaji Akah for a Christian wakes-night and service of songs, kicking off at 8 pm.

The following day, Friday, November 28, 2025, marked the solemn farewell. The late matriarch’s remains left Umuaka Community Hospital’s mortuary in a motorcade, proceeding to the same venue (her husband’s place) for lying in state.

By 10 am, a funeral Mass for the repose of her soul was celebrated at St. Paul’s Anglican Church Acharaji Akah. The 2 hour service was concluded by 12 midday and immediately followed by internment at her husband’s compound.

Umuaka Times gathered that the Woman of Substance who died at the age of 74 had many church and community based organizations that came for her funeral. Top among them are the Christian mothers of the Anglican communion, Klubb88, an association of old boys that graduated from High School Umuaka in 1988 as well as Ambassador Cosmos Yahzitere Okoh-led International Organization of United Volunteers.

By the end of the burial ceremonies, the family thanked all those who were able to attend the funeral leaving behind all their daily activities.
