Being a text of an address presented by the president of 82 Set of High School Umuaka, Engineer Vice Onyemepu on the occasion of the 2025th edition of the group’s homecoming held on January 2 2025.

EZENWANNE! EZENWANNE!! EZENWANNE!!! EZENWANNE!!!

It’s with utmost joy in mind heart that a journey we started 6years ago and that the Union we have together nurtured for this period has grown to this enviable number of memberships and still making waves among our contemporaries. As it pleased God, our Union is the gathering of people of different stratifications, but held together under the umbrella of classmates. I wish to respectfully doff my cap to all of you who have under thick and thin believed that we are better together because what binds us is far stronger than whatever may tend to separate us.

It’s therefore the gathering of this nature that continually reminds us of where we started from and why any obvious differences in economic and social statuses are considered as God’s gifts to our set and which have been effectively utilized in keeping us at an enviable pedestal among our admirers. As usual I wish to specially appreciate those who have used their endowments to bless us in various ways and more particularly those who have graciously provided us with conducive spaces and even aided in tremendous ways in hosting our homecoming events. In the order of hosting our homecoming events are 1) Engr Sir Vice Onyemepu (Jan 3 2023), 2) High Chief Barr Eddyson Anugoh (Ugwumba) (Jan 2 2024), 3) HRM Eze Barr Justin Uzoma Ezeala (Eze Nwanne) (Jan 4 2025) and today 4) Hon Chief Charles Chima Ike (Udoakpuenyi) (Jan 2 2026). We have no doubt that another member would gladly volunteer to take the next hosting of our homecoming event and may God bless him and his family as he makes his intention known to us in good time.

We must thank God for the good number of us he kept alive and healthy till today. We know that many of us have answered the ultimate call even before our formation in January 2020 and some are today suffering from one ailment or the other. We pray God to grant the souls of the faithful departed eternal repose in his heavenly kingdom and to grant speedy recovery to any of us who are sick. May his blessings continue to be our portion even as we all have joined or close to joining the age of senior citizens. May he grant us graceful aging in love and respect for each other. Amen.

Our wives and families have been part of the sources of our happiness as members of this Union. We thank them for being part of the reasons why we enjoy ourselves as classmates. For those members who have lost their spouses and children, may God alone be your Chief consoler and fill the gaps of your loses. Please, let’s relax and enjoy ourselves together in the spirit of the New Year and may we continue to find reasons to celebrate ourselves in the organization of our homecoming events and any such occasions that make life meaningful to us.

May God bless the wife and family of our host, Udoakpuenyi for supporting him in giving us special treats and memorable hospitality. May God also bless all of us who have come to rejoice and merry because it’s only the living who have the opportunity to rejoice and merry.
