In this interview, Pastor Metu Jonathan, an intellectual churchman and an educationist who is the principal of Diamond Princess Academy in UmuakaNjaba LGA Imo State speaks on the achievements of the school and why parents should bring their children to the school.

Excerpts:

May we know you sir?

My name is Pastor Metu Jonathan.

Give us a little background about yourself especially your academic trainings.

I am an indigenous son of Umuaka, precisely from AcharajiAkah and the current Principal of Diamond Princess Academy DPA.

What about your academic records?

I’m a product of High School Umuaka, Njaba LGA Imo State.

Ok. Tell us about your university education.

I have a Bachelor’s Degree (BSc) in Sociology from Imo State University Owerri. I am currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Human Resources and Personal Management from the same University.

Any other training?

In addition, I possess a Professional Diploma in Education (PDE) from AlvanIkoku Federal University of Education Owerri, Imo State. My international educational certificates and experiences include: i. IGCSE (Sociology) Cambridge Assessment International Education ii. TKT Teaching knowledge Test Training: A Cambridge University Assessment Test.

Honestly you are really loaded. When did you join the teaching profession?

I have been in the teaching profession for almost twenty(20) years now, covering Njaba, Isu and Mbaitoli LGAs..

What about DPA? When did you join them?

I joined DPA, August, 2025. Within this short period, DPA has made notable achievements.

For real? What led to the achievements?

This can be attributed to the following; A. The visionary and dynamic leadership of our director: Chief Leonard Offorji.  B. Our vigorous pursuit to the school’s vision and mission statement. And C; Qualitative and quantitative recruitment of staff members. We also have D which is the unalloyed dedication of our staff members. And finally E: The active and consistent support from our PTA.

Please for the benefit of our readers, can you list some of these achievements?

Yes I can do that. First is the increased enrollment of students, infrastructural development such as modern classrooms, 24 hour solar powered electricity, CCTV coverage, water borehole, science laboratories and an ICT lab.

Is that all?

Never! There are the recruitment of qualified teachers, purchase of school buses, compulsory feeding to students and pupils, aesthetic improvement, school compound, BECE approval etc.

Umuaka Times was informed that maximum number of students you will admit and after that any other student will not be admitted. Is that true?

Yes it is true. We prioritize quality over quantity. Our admission is based on our capacity to properly train, mentor, and monitor each child. We would rather produce excellent graduates from a manageable population than struggle with overcrowding. For us: “Excellence is more important than enrollment statistics.”

What are the admission requirements at DPA?

At DPA, our admission process includes the following: Purchase of application form, return of completed application form, overview of the school prospectus (for awareness), entrance examination, and oral interview for successful applicants. There are also medical test, offer of admission letter, payments and orientation program.

In a very short while, DPA was able to convince parents to bring their children to the school. How were you able to achieve this feat?

Good question. The answer is simple. Excellence has value. Parents choose us because they see the difference.

So what are the challenges DPA faces?

Every institution has operational challenges, from economic realities, infrastructure cost to human development management. But our focus remains on solutions. We are proactive, strategic and forward thinking in addressing them.

Where do you foresee DPA to be in the next 5 years?

In five years, we would have built an institution that proves that quality, discipline and vision can redefine education in this Local Government Area. We will be the standard others measure themselves against.

What is your message to the parents of your LGA and beyond?

My message to parents is simple: education works best when schools and homes work together. We’re committed to providing a safe, disciplined and academically sound environment with qualified teachers for your children. But we cannot do it alone.

Do you need their partnership?

Let us partner intentionally to raise children who are not only intelligent but rather responsible, respectful and future ready.

Together we will build a generation we will proud of.

Thank you for your time sir, Umuaka Times wishes Diamond Princess Academy success.
