The VINcity Movement which is the code name of Sir Vincent Iwuchukwu’s campaign organization has stepped up its grassroots mobilization in Oru West and Orlu Local Government Areas of Imo State as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections gather momentum. For those who may not have heard, Sir Vincent Iwuchukwu is the ADC senatorial candidate for Imo West otherwise known as Orlu Senatorial Zone.

According to the reports filed by+ Umuaka Times reporters who followed the campaign activities, the development followed the inauguration of ward coordinators by the men’s wing of the movement in Oru West LGA and a separate meeting and inauguration of ward women leaders by the women’s wing in Orlu LGA on Wednesday. The activities were held in support of Chief Vincent Iwuchukwu, founder of the VINcity Movement and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) senatorial candidate for Imo West Senatorial District.

Speaking during the Oru West meeting, the state coordinator and Director-General of the VINcity Movement, Arc. Ugochukwu Onyenobi, emphasized the need for a strong grassroots structure extending from the wards to the various polling units. He charged the newly inaugurated coordinators to remain active in their respective wards and establish regular contact with residents as part of the movement’s mobilization efforts. He further stated that the coordinators had an important role to play in building a grassroots network ahead of the 2027 elections.

The meeting was attended by the Oru West LGA Chairman of the VINcity Movement, Hon. Stanley Onwubuariri; the LGA Youth Leader, Gideon Dike; ward coordinators, ADC members, supporters and a host of others. Also present was the Oru West LGA women leader and coordinator, Mrs. Chizoba Vivian Elemuo.

In his address, Onwubuariri urged the newly inaugurated coordinators and other members to work for the election of Chief (Sir) Vincent Iwuchukwu as senator representing Imo West. He also called for support for other ADC candidates contesting various elective positions, advocating what he described as a “top-to-bottom” voting strategy.

Onwubuariri said Iwuchukwu’s senatorial ambition was motivated by his desire to improve the welfare of the people and contribute to addressing security challenges in Orlu Zone. He further explained that Iwuchukwu was unable to attend the meeting personally because of another engagement, but had delegated him to prepare the ground for a future meeting between the candidate and the people.

Mrs. Elemuo, while addressing the coordinators, urged them to commence regular meetings and grassroots engagement across their respective wards. She stressed the importance of reaching voters at the polling-unit level and called on the coordinators to remain committed to their responsibilities.

Meanwhile, the women’s wing of the VINcity Movement held a separate mobilization meeting in Orlu LGA, where ward women leaders were inaugurated. The meeting was led by the state women leader of the movement, Hon. AmakaChiegene, who called on the newly inaugurated women leaders to intensify grassroots mobilization ahead of the 2027 elections.

Chiegene said women, particularly widows and less-privileged families, faced a number of challenges which required greater attention from political leaders. She expressed support for Iwuchukwu’s senatorial ambition, saying his proposed representation would focus on issues affecting the people, including the security and economic welfare of women. She finally urged the women leaders to engage their families, friends and communities to support of Iwuchukwu and other ADC candidates.

Also speaking during the event, the Orlu LGA women leader, Mrs. OgechiOghugo, called on women across the local government area to unite and participate actively in the political process. Oghugo urged the women to sustain their mobilization efforts at the ward and community levels as preparations for the 2027 elections continue.

The two activities formed part of the ongoing efforts by the VINcity Movement to establish and strengthen its grassroots structures across Imo West. The movement is focusing on ward coordination, women’s participation and polling-unit mobilization as the 2027 general elections draw closer.

Umuaka Times correspondents gathered that further mobilization activities are expected to take place in other parts of Orlu Zone as political parties and their candidates intensify preparations for the elections.
