At the wake Night of Dr Tim Obiwuru.
2 min readThe wake night of the late famous MC and senior lecturer at University of Lagos Dr Tim Obiwuru was held in the compound of the great mathematician on Friday night last week. By the time Umuaka Times arrived at the venue, there was a big display of canopies and many people were seen in the main compound. The Umuada Okwudor Ibele and the married women of the same community were all present to bade farewell to one of their greatest sons who has assisted the community in diverse ways.
Many youths from Ibele and some motorcycle boys also came for the event. When the Umuaka Times correspondent who was covering the event went outside the compound to catch a glimpse of the goings-on, he recorded the presence of several women who were selling drinks, biscuits, water and many other items some people would need in order to enjoy their stay all night long. Some of the motorcycle boys who were outside the compound were seen in some dark areas where they were wrapping and smoking some substances and arguing about the insecurity in the country.
Back to the compound, the members of Old Umuaka National Union Lagos Branch, had also taken their seats. In fact, it was observed that the group had arrived at the venue as early as 7pm on the same day. There were many people including the female friends of the wife of Sir Tim Obiwuru who mostly came from Lagos.
Many who had wanted to thrill the audience with some jokes, a gift the late Obiwuru was known for, could not do so because there was no microphone or sound system that was provided for the night. Perhaps, it was for either security reason or religious reasons too. Despite this flaw, the wake keepers did their best to create some tables in different canopies where they cracked jokes and discussed about life and more. Two jovial Ibele women were seen going from canopy to canopy cracking jokes with occupants of the canopies.
When the president of the Old Umuaka National Union Lagos Branch Chief Okey Nwanyanwu received kola nuts from the Obiwuru family members, he thanked them for the presentation and spoke about Dr Obiwuru briefly. He described the late Obiwuru as a man of peace with large heart. He enjoined the Umuaka people to remember Obiwuru in their daily prayers.
Responding to the speech made by the president, Chief Silvanus Obiwuru, an elder brother of the late Tim Obiwuru thanked the group, Old Umuaka National Union Lagos Branch for coming and prayed for their safety while returning home.
