The chairman of Njaba Local Government Area, Chief Vitalis Obi, has taken a significant step to address the concerns of traders at Afor Umuaka modern market. In a move aimed at bringing order and stability to the market, Chief Obi inaugurated a new interim management team on February 6, 2026 with the sole aim of conducting the affairs of the market.

The inauguration of the new team was announced in a communiqué issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the LG chairman, Mr. Ijele Chimezie Odoemenam. According to the statement, the move was made jointly with the state Commissioner of Trade, Commerce and Investment, Chief Rex Anunobi (Sokom). This development follows the dissolution of the existing management board of the market, which was carried out by the office of the council chairman in response to public outcry over illegal taxes and extortions traders have suffered over the years.

The new interim management team is comprised of Chief Uzoma Achazie as chairman, Chief Charles Obi, member,  Mr. Chibuike Duruoha, member,  Mrs. Caroline Iwuala, member,  Mr. Chinonye Ibe, member, Mr. Chimezie Emeka, member and Mr. Modestus Obioha also a member. The team has been tasked by the chairman, Chief Vitalis Obi to ensure that there is adequate security and justice among members of the group and the market at large.

An physical assessment of the market by Umuaka Times reveals that the market is in dire need of basic amenities, including adequate security, effective waste management, a reliable water system, and public toilets. Traders and visitors alike have appealed to the authorities to take steps to improve the capacity of the market.

Umuaka Times can confirm that the inauguration of the new management team is seen as a positive step towards addressing the challenges facing the market. It is hoped that the new team will work tirelessly to restore the dignity of the market and make it a thriving hub of commercial activity in the area. The people of Umuaka and the traders at the market are looking forward to a new era of peace, stability, and prosperity.
