Against All Odds, George Soros Turns 93 and keeps Moving.

3 min read

Billionaire American philanthropist, global icon and stupendously rich international investor and author, George Soros, turned 93 years last week precisely on August 12, 2023. Soros whose worth is put at 8.6 billion US Dollars has donated 0ver 60 percent of his personal fortune to charity causes around the world. From 1985 till date, Mr. Soros, a Hungarian citizen who changed his name from György Schwartz to George Soros after he migrated to the United States and acquired American citizenship is reported to have spent over 25 billion dollars on charity, promoting human rights, access to good health, democracy, free speech and more.

As Soros who marked his 93 years birthday last week with no form of event to celebrate his new age, shocked the world when he announced that he has handed over the management of his Open Society Foundations, the charity body that distributes his wealth around the world to NGOs and governments to one of his children named Alexander Soros. A couple of years ago, Umuaka Times gathered that Soros told reporters that he had no intention to hand over his charity foundation to any of his five children, Alexander Soros, Jonathan Soros, Andrea Soros, Robert Soros and Gregory Soros.

Soros who is known for his strange, dramatic and controversial ability to make some highly incredible moves on the chess board of global politics and economy, shocked the entire world and those on international development sector when he made the unexpected announcement last week. After the announcement, Soros told reporters that his son Alexander Soros, earned the position as it never came to him on a platter of gold.

Alexander Soros: The new kid on the block.

The 1985 born Alexander Soros is already a world class known philanthropist and is reported to be more political than his dad. Last week, the question people around the world kept asking was if Alexander will be able to withstand the heat his dad withstood from 1985 till date. To many Americans and politicians around the world, Soros represents the bad, the ugly and the worst. He has been described as a ruthless businessman, merciless investor, magician, the Anti-Christ and the man who broke the Bank of England. All the global hatred and castigation never for an inch moved Soros. All he did was to do what he knew how to do best; donate! Donate and donate.

As Americans and top rated politicians and economists around the world were busy calling Mr Soros names, executive directors of NGOs across the world, students of economics, journalists and more were busy raising awareness on the sound activities of the bad guy called George Soros. The Umuaka Times publisher, a couple of years ago, suggested to the Nobel Foundation to confer a Nobel Peace Prize on Soros due to his determination and honest efforts to eliminate poverty and human rights abuses globally. The inspiration for the suggestion made by the publisher of Umuaka Times, Darlington Ojy Onwukwe came after reading a Time Magazine cover story on Soros where the globally rated news magazine described him as “the billionaire who would save the world and can almost afford to.”

At 93, Soros has been able to create a new world order through his millions where both rich and poor countries have benefited from. For now, Soros according to Time Magazine, still remains the most unlikely American to run out of cash.

You have played your part and continue to play it globally at 93, now it is left for the Nobel Foundation to play her part and pronounce you the winner of Nobel Prize for Peace 2023. Happy birthday to you sir and enjoy your “retirement”.
