Agbahiwe to offer Umuaka Community Hospital foreign investors.
2 min readFrontline Akalite, educationist, seasoned banker, social worker and high profile hospital administrator, Dr Austin Chidi Agbahiwe has offered to bring foreign or local investors to the dilapidated Umuaka Community Hospital UCH for effective management and value if given the opportunity by the stakeholders in the community.
Dr Agbahiwe who is the Administrator of Imo State based American Cancer Hospital, expressed this point in a paper he presented to Umuaka Times during his recently marked birthday a couple of weeks back.
In the paper titled Austin Agbahiwe Gives Birthday Message, he discussed the way forward for individuals and later extended it to Umuaka as a people. Dr Agbahiwe indeed expressed deep worries and concerns over the dilapidated state of Umuaka Community Hospital. In a fit of despondency, he went further and described Umuaka Community Hospital as a mere parcel of land.
While proffering the solution that will bring the hospital back to life, Dr Agbahiwe wrote. “I can arrange for local or foreign investors in this direction. Everyone should know that hospital business is unique in the sense that while human resources constitute 60% and equipment constitute 30%, building and land constitute only 10% in the making of an efficient and effective hospital. At the end of it all, the people of Umuaka will have a viable first class secondary hospital that can create value and save lives.”
For the project to be highly effective as planned the project will be done under a concession tagged; “CPP” (Community Private Partnership) and this arrangement will create values and serious cash flow. The idea of handing the hospital over to the government, Dr Agbahiwe seriously expressed his reservations on this plan because in his view, the government is broke and has a deep fight with debts.
It can be recalled that a couple of years ago, Akah Federal Union AFU, was holding talks with royal fathers and other stakeholders on how to revive Umuaka Community Hospital UCH, it was then suggested to the Amiyi Akah to buy the hospital. From that time till now, no other concrete message or discussion was heard again. As at now, Umuaka Community Hospital is like a dead zone, there is a need for the community to do something, make it functional and save the lives of millions of people who have been dying due to poor medical attention.
