Top Imo politician and one of the Labour Party’s aspirants to the office of the governor of Imo State, Chief Martin Agbaso has denied the claims and rumours in the state that he was fronting for Hope Uzodimma, the current governor of the state. Chief Agbaso who has many followers across the state denied the claims last week in Owerri when he was addressing cross section of journalists in view of the governorship election scheduled to hold on November 11 2023.

Chief Agbaso who described the rumours as an insult to his person and integrity, told journalists in Owerri thus: “it is so unfortunate that somebody in his right senses would ascribe me as working for anybody. Nothing could be more insulting that Martin Agbaso is holding forth for Uzodimma. It is unimaginable because by 1992 when I entered serious politics, who was Uzodimma then?”

Talking about his qualifications and preparedness for the Imo top job, Agbaso told the gathering that he tops the list of all the aspirants for the office including Hope Uzodimma.

““There is nobody running for the office of the governor, including Hope Uzodimma who is anywhere as qualified as Martin Agbaso. That is the truth. In terms of academic training, managerial training, professional training, business accomplishment, contact, reach, respectability, integrity, I am above them.

“Nothing could be more insulting than stating that Agbaso is holding a spot for Hope Uzodimma. When I got into politics in 1992, I didn’t know what Uzodimma was doing then. Nobody is more qualified than me in terms of education, business accomplishments, sincerity and contacts. What are you going to offer me? Is it what I already have?

“Why on earth will anybody insult me that way? There is nobody I can hold brief anywhere. I am a highly competitive man,”

The Owerri born politician used the opportunity and condemned the arrest of a young Labour Party politician in the state, Mr Clinton Amadi and further called for his release. On the stolen mandate of Labour Party at the presidential election, he appealed to the people to be optimistic as the mandate would be reclaimed.
