Albert Okunwa’s medical mission in Uba a huge success. – Beneficiaries.
2 min readThe free medical mission held in Umuezeala Uba Umuaka yesterday being Saturday November 4 2023 has been described as a huge success by the residents of the community, health officials who administered the program and others who benefited from the free medical mission which was solely sponsored by an illustrious son of Umuezeala Uba Dr Albert Okunwa and his wife.
The program which was handled by the students from the Department of Optometry Imo State University had many residents from Uba etc in attendance. The attendees were screened and drugs and eye glasses were given to them.
When the announcement for the special eye care mission was made late last week by Umuaka Times, it was originally planned for Umuezeala residents only but Dr Okunwa and his wife saw the need to include the whole Uba community and that they did successfully. At the end of the program, several persons especially the aged, were properly taken care of.
Mr Chibuike Okunwa, a youth leader and a relation of the sponsor of the free medical program described the medical exercise as a big success and asked God to continue to bless Dr Okunwa and his wife. Former chairman of Umuisii family union, Chief Vitalis Amakodike during his prayers at the event, made mention of the success of the program which eventually came into reality.
While discussing with the Umuaka Times American correspondent early last week, Dr Okunwa lamented that charity works taking place in Nigeria today is a reflection and indictment of the government over her irresponsibility towards her citizens. He used the opportunity and thanked the students from Imo University who executed the program successfully. He appealed to other people in Umuaka to also take another area of serious concern and develop a strategy on how to assist the poor ones among the people of Umuaka.
Mr Arinzechukwu Bruno Chukwunonye, an optometry student from Imo State University who played a vital role before, during and after the program told Umuaka Times that he felt a deep joy within himself and his fellow students that such a laudable program has reached Umuaka with immeasurable success. He thanked the Okunwas for their kind gesture towards the wellbeing of the poor.
At the end of the free medical mission, Umuaka Times gathered from Mr Arinzechukwu Bruno Chukwunonye that 108 persons were treated, 108 people given free drugs and 50 pieces of glasses given for free to those who needed them.
