2 min read

A number of Amiyi Akah stakeholders has rebuilt the dilapidated civic centre in the community. The plan to renovate the dilapidated building which also serves as a school was initiated and coordinated by Chief Dona Nwokedi, an illustrious son of the community that is based in the United Kingdom. In a brief interview he granted to Umuaka Time correspondent in the UK last week, Chief Nwokedi disclosed that the project was started in 2021 and was completed in 2022.

Umuaka Times gathered that Chief Nwokedi was able to gather 19 illustrious sons of the community who pulled up resources together and financed the project. As at 2022, the project cost the sum of N21million.

It was also confirmed that it was the renovation of the school building that attracted the St Savious High School to Amiyi Akah. According to Chief Nwokedi, “The building will serve not only as a school project but also as a civic centre where Amiyi Akah men and women will be holding meetings and other events.”

The following people from Amiyi Akah made the project a reality.

1. Chief Dona Nwokedi (Enyi-Oha Dum 2nd), hairman/Coordinator, 2. Chief Chigozie Ugbaja,3. Apostle Basil Osuagwu, 4. Engr. Victor Duru, 5. Chief Emeka Duru, 6. Chief/Nze Chudi Philip Ejikemeh, 7. Chief Vigirnus Egeolu (Ojiuloemeogo)

The most interesting feature during the construction of the project was that Chief Nwokedi did not make it public from the start to the end. He described the project as highly wonderful and extended his appreciation to all those who contributed in one way or another.

Already, the community has begun using the building for meetings and other events. Umuaka Times also gathered that after unveiling of the building, the donors appreciated the beauty of it and went further and added a lawn tennis court. Umuaka Times came across a video clip last week where the reverend fathers at St Savious High School Amiyi Akah were playing lawn tennis while students cheered them up.
