Amiyi Football Academy celebrates one year today.

All roads lead to Umuaka today, Sunday, April 5, 2026, as football lovers from within and beyond the community gather for a spectacular Easter celebration marking the one-year anniversary of Amiyi FC Academy.

Excitement is already in the air, with many football enthusiasts from far and near indicating strong interest in being part of what promises to be a memorable grassroots football showcase. The event kicks off by 2:00 PM at Central School Umuaka, popularly known as Njaba Stadium, and is expected to attract a massive turnout of fans, sports administrators, and community leaders from across Njaba Local Government Area and beyond.

The celebration will be graced by respected traditional rulers, including HRM Eze Francis Ahanotu of Amiyi Akah Autonomous Community, who will serve as the Royal Father of the Day, alongside HRM Eze Justin Uzoma Ezeala of Obinwanne Umuaka Autonomous Community.

Top government officials and key stakeholders in sports development will also be in attendance. The Chairman of Njaba LGA, Chief Vitalis Obi, will be present as a special guest, alongside Chief Ozioma Worship (Ezengwori), who represents Njaba LGA at the State House of Assembly.

Hosting the event is the founder of the famous football academy, Chief Chika Duru, with notable football administrators such as Barrister Ifeanyi Dike (Chairman, Imo FC) and Chief Chikelue Illoenyosi (Chairman, Anambra FA) also in attendance, adding prestige to the occasion.

Speaking at the event, Chief Louis Duru, a former state commissioner and proud son of Amiyi Akah, reiterated the vision behind the academy. He explained that the initiative was established by a philanthropically driven daughter of the community to create opportunities for talented youths who lack exposure.

In just one year, Amiyi FC Academy has recorded remarkable progress, participating in several competitions and delivering impressive performances. The team, currently guided by former international footballer Uche Kanu Anockwute, continues to grow under experienced leadership.

Looking ahead, plans are already in motion to further strengthen grassroots football, including organizing a secondary school football tournament across Njaba LGA before the end of the year.

As part of today’s celebration, fans will also enjoy an exciting novelty match between Amiyi Academy FC of Umuaka and IMSO FC of Owerri, adding energy and competitive flair to the festivities.

Today’s event highlights a deepening commitment to youth development and football excellence in Umuaka, firmly positioning Amiyi FC Academy as a rising force in shaping the next generation of football stars.
