Bishop Ukwuoma tasks nursing students on compassion etc.
2 min readThe Catholic Bishop of Orlu Diocese, His Lordship, Rev Dr Augustine Ukwuoma has tasked the matriculating nursing students of Merit College of Nursing Umuowa on compassion, dedication, fear of God and professionalism.
The Catholic bishop made this charge last week while celebrating the Mass service at the premises of the great institution during the matriculation ceremony of the school. From what the bishop said during his short sermon, he reminded the students that as the first set of students to matriculate from the school, they are the pacesetters who other students will emulate their character, academic performances and many more. “Begin well and let others follow you. Always see patients as humans and show them love.”
On the role of teachers at the school, Bishop Ukwuoma reminded them that they must work with merit and uphold the name of the institution.
“Everything in this school must be on merit. You should not pass any student who fails his or her exams because if you do so, you are not working based on merit anymore.”
Before he ended his sermon, the bishop prayed for the school and committed its activities in the hands of God.
Also in a brief exclusive interview with Umuaka Times during the event, the bishop while answering questions from Umuaka Times, disclosed that the Orlu Diocese has a working relationship with Merit College of Nursing because the church is a progressive institution. “Anything that is progressive that has to do with human capital development interests the church. That is why the church came here and built.”
On the failure of government in erecting such programs, the bishop frowned that governments of today lack commitment to people and that is why they find it hard to establish such programs that will benefit the people.
