Bode George hits those telling Ndi Igbo to leave Lagos.
2 min readControversial politician and a former national chairman of PDP, Chief Olabode George has described as “arrant nonsense” those behind the call telling the Igbo to leave Lagos.
Chief Bode George who spoke with News Agency of Nigeria last week did not only wonder why a faceless group would embark on that call but went on and described the call as “sheer stupidity”. In his own words, the fearless critic of APC summed it thus:
“It is nonsense. I say it is arrant nonsense. Why should we be saying that the Igbo people should leave?
“We have grown with them here. I had known them. We played local football, local football together.
“I think those who are proposing or talking about it are not Lagos indigenes themselves.
“In Lagos, we welcome traders. Bring your wares, we look at it, we buy it, you make your money, we give you land to build. That is the culture of Lagos.”
Bode George, an indigene of Lagos State disclosed that those behind the barbaric call are not real indigenes of Lagos.
While tracing the history of the Igbo in Lagos, George told reporters that the late Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe a foremost Igbo politician was a political son of his grand uncle, Sir Herbert Macaulay. He further disclosed that it was Zik and the late foremost nationalist, Sir Herbert Macaulay that first started the nationalism struggle before the late Obafemi Awolowo joined them.
It can be recalled that since last week, a faceless group suspected to be Yoruba had sent a message across the social media asking Ndi Igbo to leave Lagos or face severe consequences. The Lagos State Government also released a press statement last week distancing itself from the call and urged Ndi Igbo to continue doing their normal business.
A pan Igbo group known as The Igboezue International Association Nigeria and the Diaspora, IIAND, also called on President Ahmed Bola Tinubu and the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu to call to order, those trying to create the social imbalances in Nigeria by attacking Ndi Igbo and accusing them of being the brain behind the ongoing #EndBadGovernance in Nigeria# nationwide protest.
Also reacting to the call to leave Lagos, the Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB again through its spokesman Emma Powerful, called for a referendum to determine if the Igbo would like to stay in Nigeria or not.
