Prominent Akalite and youthful Diasporan, Chief Chibuzor Ibegbulem has tasked Igbo parents living outside Igboland especially those in the Diaspora to educate their children on the rudiments, preservations and promotion of Igbo culture and tradition. Ibegbulem who specifically challenged parents from Umuaka on why they should take time and educate their children about Igbo cultures, traditions and festivals, disclosed this during the 2022 picnic organized by Akah National Union in Dallas Texas United States of America. Despite mentioning the benefits of making the younger ones have sound knowledge of their culture, he further spoke about the oghu cultural event organized by the Akah National Union. “Yes we held a picnic last week and we included a little oghu dance in it. The reason for the inclusion was to make our younger ones especially our children to understand and know our culture very well”.

While speaking with the American correspondent of Umuaka Times during the picnic, Chief Ibegbulem who holds the chieftaincy title of Ugwudinanwa 1 of Isiozi Akah thanked the officials of the umbrella union for the success of the picnic. He described the oghu segment of the picnic as the Itu Nkwa, which is a little ceremony that notifies the people that the oghu festival is around the corner. “Come 2023, our oghu dance here in the States will be best oghu event ever held outside Umuaka town”.

Another person who spoke with Umuaka Times on the Dallas picnic was the Public Relations Officer of Akah National Union, Dr Emeka Nwokedi. He expressed his satisfaction over the event which brought many Akalites together once again. Dr Nwokedi did not see the oghu segment of the colourful picnic as a mock but “an added side attraction”. He further disclosed that by next year, some oghu dancers from Umuaka will be invited for the big event.

At the end of the event, both Nwokedi and Ibegbulem demonstrated their optimism towards Oghu Dallas 2023 and prayed to God to guide and protect his people till then.
