Chief Bob Dike hosts 73 Set of BSC Orlu in a larvish party.

It was big fun and entertainment in the country home of Chief Bob Dike who is also an engineer. On December 30, 2023, the former secondary school mates of Engineer Dike from Bishop Shanahan College Orlu gathered in his house in Umuezeala Uba Umuaka during a get- together and thanksgiving ceremony. The school in question which was named after Bishop Shanahan (1871-1943) was a missionary school established in 1949. The great institution has been able to produce high level professionals etc who are scattered around the globe in their different endeavours.
Those who gathered in the living room of the Dikes on December 30, 2023 were a part of the best hands the institution has produced over the years. During the event, engineers, medical doctors, archtects, professors and more were in attendance. As it is custommary in almost all soceities, when men who were once boys gather, the tend to “dwell in the past” and crack the jokes of the past especially with the memories of their boys’ life.
The old students in the Fela language, “yabbed” each other and cracked jokes as they all remembered their “guy names” during their secondary school days.
The host of the event Chief and Mrs Bob Dike made sure that there was a consistent supply of what to eat and drink. As they were busy supplying the eatables and the drinkables, their guests were also busy eating and cracking more jokes.
When a large number of them had gathered, an opening prayer was said and the event began officially. Engineer Dike welcomed them to his country home and thanked God for the gift of life and making them to see each other once again after 50 years or more. He presented kolanuts and after eating the kolanuts, the Umuaka Times reporters who were covering the event requested the old boys to formally introduce themselves for proper recognition as it has been so long they last met. As the introduction was going on, each old boy also mentioned his guy name and there were more jokes and laughter too.
The next big thing that happened was a group photograph which was taken outside the living room. As the photographers from Umuaka Times were arranging and organizing the old students for the unique photograps, the reporters asked the students to sing any of the pop songs in the 70s which they grew with. Some of them burst into laughter because of the sudden request from Umuaka Times. Bob Dike, a serious lover of music in the 70s and 80s came up with a song: “I want you to be my girl/I want you by my side/Be my girllll.”
As he began the song, all of them joined in the song and the involvement of the whole old boys eletrified the atmosphere.
The next segment that followed was a closing remark from Engineer Dike who displayed deep pleasure and appreciation that he was able to see his “brothers” once again after close to 50 years. He thanked God for the opportunity and expressed serious optimism that the 2023 get- together party of 73 Set of BSC Orlu was simply the end of the beginning.
