Chief Kelechi Ezike: I am still the Umuaka PG.
2 min readThe controversy in (Uba)Umuaka community over who is the authentic president-general of the community has continued to fire on. And from the look of things, it appears that a juducial intervention may be the solution to put to rest the controversy. Just last week, Chief Maxwell Kelechi Ezike maintained that he was still the one, only and authentic president-general of Umuaka community. Chief Ezike who disclosed this in a brief interview with Umuaka Times seriously argued and wondered why the chairman of Njaba Local Council, Hon Emeka Ihenacho would exclusively single out Umuaka community and change her president-general without regards to the democratic wishes of the people.
“Presidents- general are elected not appointed. I was elected by my people and my tenure is still running,” Ezike told Umuaka Times during the interview. Chief Ezike described the status of Kizito Duru as a political PG or even a liaison officer for the Umuaka people. In the presentations made by Chief Ezike, Hon Duru does not have the mandate of the people of Umuaka to represent them as their PG.
From indications, Chief Ezike wants the people of Umuaka to continue to relate with him as the authentic PG for the community. To prove this point, a couple of days ago, Ezike was able to secure the final approval documents from Imo State Government for High School Umuaka which has been programmed to be operating from Hilltop Primary School Uba Umuaka. Many people in the community thanked him for the success he has achieved and prayed for more goals to be scored by him.
Be that as it may, many people still relate to Chief Ezike on his official capacity as the PG of Umuaka. These people who relate with the Chief Ezike as the PG, have completely disagreed with whoever that the Njaba Local Council has no right to appoint a PG for the Umuaka people.
For now, there is a population of indigenes made up of loyalists, advisers and supporters who believes in the leadership of Chief Maxwell Kelechi Ezike. This population cuts across the youths, the elderly and students. The two PGs, despite the raging controversies that have come to trail their office or offices, have continued to work seriously to put Umuaka community in a better shape and position to attract more developments.
