Crime waves, motorcycle accidents still on the rise in Umuaka.
1 min readDespite the escalating number of motorcycle accidents and accident victims in Umuaka Municipal Council UMC, coupled with motorcycle snatching, phone snatching and trailing of bank customers and POS users by motorcycle boys, crime waves in the community are still on the rise. Last week alone, over 5 persons lost their motorcycles in the community and some attempts were made to snatch vehicles. Some of these attempts were successful while others were not. Last week in Amurie Omanze, a neighbouring town to Umuaka, a Thailand returnee was gunned down by some motorcycle boys who wanted to snatch his motorcycle. According to what Umuaka Times gathered, the man was putting up some resistance which provoked the robbers to shoot him on his head at a very close range. He died on the spot!
A POS operator in Ime Afor Umuaka Modern Market told Umuaka Times last week that the POS robbers have now beamed their searchlight on them, the POS drivers. “A day hardly passes in Umuaka where a POS driver or customer is not robbed.”
Umuaka Times has observed that the activities of criminals in the community is on the high side because there is no security in the community again.
