Yusuf Alabi, a 17 year old Yoruba boy who came from a poor family background is perhaps referred to as the most popular Nigerian teenager on the internet today, courtesy of Peter Obi’s Lagos Mega Rally. It can be recalled that out of excitement and love Yusuf had for Peter Obi, he blocked the Obi convoy during the Lagos rally just to secure the attention of the politician and pray for his ambition. Yusuf who had walked a long way to see Obi, was never prevented by Obi’s security details as he blocked the convoy. Obi looked at the poor boy and smiled and that signaled the beginning of a new era for Yusuf who dropped out of secondary school due to lack of funds.
The picture of Yusuf blocking the convoy with his two hands stretched sideways, automatically became the picture and symbol of the rally. The picture went round the whole world as a sign of freedom from bondage young Nigerians are seeing today.
As the picture went viral, several Nigerians who saw the picture started to look for Yusuf in order to donate cash gifts to the poor boy. As at last week, unconfirmed reports had it that about 1 million Naira has been donated by free-minded Nigerians for the little Yusuf.
One of the prominent Nigerians who heard of the Yusuf zeal in Obi was the celebrity barman and popular socialite, Chief Paschal Okechukwu known as Cubana Chief Priest. Touched by the story of Yusuf, the Chief Priest vowed that he would change the life of Yusuf for better. For a start, Yusuf would be sent back to school to complete his secondary school education and further to the university level, courtesy of the Chief Priest.
Last week, a picture emerged on the internet where Peter Obi was said to have met the poor boy and took a photograph with him. The photograph was later debunked as another teenager who posed in the picture with Obi.
From the day Yusuf made the move to meet Obi, he became an instant sensation as many journalists across the country have been seeking to get an interview from him. For now, many Nigerians have expressed their appreciation to the Cubana Chief Priest and many others who have so far donated money to the new sensation in town, Yusuf Alabi.
