The Headmistress of Diamond Princess Academy, Mrs. Lillian Olumba, led a team of pupils and teachers on a community service exercise at Afor Umuaka Market last week. The exercise was part of the school’s Schedule of Activities, an initiative that allows the school to map out and execute community-focused projects.

Umuaka Times gathered that the school spent three days educating her pupils on volunteerism and community service, preparing them for the cleaning exercise. On Friday, February 13, 2026, 70 pupils from crèche to basic 5, accompanied by 9 teachers and school officials, visited the market to carry out the exercise.

The market authorities had given the school a specific section to clean, and the pupils and their teachers set to work, wearing their white hand gloves, nose masks, reflector jackets, and jeans trousers. The exercise started at 2:30 pm and lasted for 30 minutes. Market men and women who witnessed the exercise extolled the school for her innovative idea and described the exercise as worthy of emulation by other schools in Umuaka.

When it was time for the environmental exercise, the deputy chairman of the market, Mr. Chinedu Egbuka, represented the chairman, Chief Uzoma Achazie, and directed the school authorities on where to clean. He expressed gratitude for the school’s community service initiative and organized light refreshments for the pupils and their teachers.

The Headmistress, Mrs. Lillian Olumba while holding talks with Umuaka Times, explained that the school believes in “catching them young” and teaching children the importance of volunteerism from an early age. She emphasized that the exercise was a vital part of the school’s corporate social responsibility.

The pupils and teachers were hailed as corporate bodies in the market, who appreciated their efforts in cleaning the market. In addition, the deputy chairman of the market, Chief Egbuka Chimezie, thanked the school for its selfless service and prayed for God’s blessings and protection on the school and its pupils.

The exercise ended with the pupils clapping and returning to their school, accompanied by their teachers and drivers. The school’s community service initiative was widely praised, and the market authorities looked forward to future collaborations with Diamond Princess Academy.
