Prominent Uba Umuaka born lawyer and the principal attorney, Ducex Solicitors, Emma Duruigbo

Has congratulated Uba Umuaka union Lagos branch for the successful end of the year party held on Sunday, 14 December 2025 inside Festac Town Lagos. Speaking exclusively with Umuaka Times correspondents who covered the event, the youthful attorney thanked all the members of the organization and the officials of the group led by Mazi GoddyI wuoha.

Duruigbo who regretted attending the event very late due to a heavy traffic logjam on Lagos roads on the eventful day, simply put it thus; “It gladdens my heart that our community is still waxing strong here in Lagos against all odds. Uba people will always be on the front burner of social activities and progress not only at home but here in Lagos too. I feel so happy and thank God for giving us another successful 2025 which we are marking its end today as a family. I congratulate you all my people for this special event and I pray God to give our community more blessings in the coming year,” the attorney concluded.

Duruigbo also used the opportunity and appealed to Uba people to encourage their friends, family members and others to give a serious consideration towards joining their community meetings in Lagos and other parts of the country they find themselves including outside. He made this appeal after considering the unending stories of woes, kidnappings and disappearances of people across Nigeria in the recent time. “I appeal to parents, guardians and families across Umuaka Municipal Council to encourage their sons and daughters living in the urban cities in and outside Nigeria to endeavour to identify with other Akalites in such places by joining Umuaka unions in their cities and countries of residence. Duruigbo who earlier in the year bagged a chieftaincy title as Chinaemeze 1 seriously emphasized on the disadvantages, dangers and losses that go with non-membership to such unions.

While trying to drive home his point, he narrated a recent incident here in Lagos where an Akalite who does not belong to any of his village meetings has been facing.

“You may not believe this. Recently, I was in court and I saw an Akalite who was having a serious issue that could have landed him in detention unjustly. His only saviour was that I came to court that day. It was my intervention that saved him. I later discovered that he does not belong to Umuaka union here in Lagos and that was very bad of him because if he had belonged to any, the members of the union would have taken over the case from him.”

Duruigbo also confirmed to Umuaka Times that he has been in the business of helping some Akalites in such matters especially when the matters are on landlord and tenant disagreements. He lamented that most of the Akalites he has given such helps were non-members of Umuaka union in Lagos.

“Please this is not politics or anything. Our people should wake up from their slumber and join their people in the Umuaka groups anywhere they live. People disappear daily; some are clamped into detention illegally. It is in times like this that you realize that no man is an island and act accordingly.”

On his final note, the Lagos lawyer used the opportunity and thanked Akalites living in Ghana on their recent efforts which materialized into the establishment of Umuaka union in Ghana. “Let me conclude this interview by thanking our brothers living in Ghana for their resilience in forming Umuaka national union in the country. I also appeal to other Akalites in other states in Nigeria and across the world to emulate the good brotherly example from Ghana. And most especially, I also want to express my deeply heartfelt appreciation to His Royal Highness Eze Charles Nnajiemere of Amurie Omanze for finding me worthy and bestowed on me the chieftaincy title of Chinaemeze 1 of Amurie Omanze.”

Asked to give a hint on how he wished to be addressed henceforth, the attorney smiled and said, “Address me as Emma Duruigbo. A Chief is a chief but those who want to add Chief are free to do so.”
