“Elect leaders not rulers”. Nnamdi Dire. Njaba LP Candidate.
4 min readHigh Chief (Engineer) Nnamdi Dire, a businessman and politician who hopes to represent Njaba LGA in Imo State House of Assembly tells Umuaka Times why he wants to serve his people.
Excerpts:
Tell us a little about your background. Like when you were born, where you live and what you do for a living.
I am High Chief (Engineer) Nnamdi Dire. I am a native of Isiozi-Akah Autonomous Community. I am the second son Chief B. C Dire.
Your educational backgrounds?
I started at Riverside Primary School before I proceeded to St Kizito’s Secondary School Umuchima in Ideato South. I eventually did my first degree on Agricultural Engineering at the Federal University of Technology Owerri FUTO before I travelled to the United States.
Why do you want to go into politics?
I joined politics because our people have suffered a lot. Those who are supposed to join politics are not interested in politics. This is a very bad development for our people. My aim is to serve and help our people.
Why House of Assembly? Can you make any impact from there?
You see, those who have been there before did their best and that is just that. Their era has come and gone and today is a fresh era. You do not offer what you do not have, it is what you have that you use to present as kola. For these reasons, I am out to make an impact for our people and for the youths. I will do my best and make sure that our people will benefit from the government of the state. Our jobless youths, and the younger ones will be the ultimate beneficiaries of this project if I sail through.
There are about 3 of you guys contesting for this same position from Umuaka and we expect that there will also be the 4th person, how do you describe that? Will it not be a bad omen for you people?
This is an excellent question. My brother please listen. It is the duty of the people and the contestants to come together and discuss the roadmap. There is a need for us to do this according to the advice given by High Chief Eddy Ikwubuo. We must hold talks without sentiments and as Dr TJ Ehirim would always say, “Let the best among us lead the rest of us”.
You know one point, when your kinsmen know the sickness one is suffering from, it will no longer be shameful to the sick person. The other two contestants were my junior at High School Umuaka. Please note that for them being my juniors does not mean that they have no good ideas to move Njaba forward. We all grew up in Umuaka and we all know each other closely. There is a need for us to gather and each person will tell the LGA what he has to do for the people.
If you lose the election what will you do?
I am into a lot of businesses. Politics is not my business and I am 100 percent comfortable with what I am doing. If you come to serve your people and they people say they do not want you, you cannot kill yourself. I am out for this project because we in Labour Party want to take back our country. Any person who has any service etc to render has to rise up and join the movement. I am not afraid to lose.
What is your advice for the voters in Njaba LGA?
Tell me your friends and I will tell you who you are. My advice for the voters in our LGA is for them to understand that this is not the time to go and collect money and continue to suffer. Njaba LGA is bound to be careful and choose a leader and not a ruler.
Please give us a little brief about your party? Do you think the people are happy with your party?
My party, Labour Party s a very good party and it is not a new party. The good news about LP is that it is out and determined to make Nigeria move forward. Our party is ready to take Nigeria from a consuming country to a productive country. Our presidential candidate has done it before and he is tested and trusted. We the members of the party from our various states etc are ready to take our states from consuming constituencies to predictive constituencies. As I said before, let the best among us lead the rest of us. We cannot allow people with nothing upstairs to lead us. That era has totally gone.
What is your final advice for your people?
We are taking our people from a consuming country, consuming state, consuming local government to productive country, state and LGA . We are taking this country from a lower height to a higher height. This country will be better if the opportunity to lead is given to Labour Party.
Thanks a lot for your time. Umuaka Times wishes you good luck on your ambition.
Thanks a lot as well.
