Ex-Hilltop pupils visit their former teacher in Okwudor.
2 min readMr Vitalis Azike, a retired teacher who was posted to Hilltop Primary School Uba Umuaka from the late 70s to mid-80s received the august visitors on Wednesday last week. The visitors who were a part of a big cross section of pupils the teacher taught during his long stay in Umuaka at Hilltop Primary School Uba Umuaka, were made up of Mr Uzoma Onyeari, Mr Darlington Ojy Onwukwe, Mr Ethelbert Eguzozie and former Miss Caroline Ikwubuo.
When the visitors arrived at the compound of their teacher and mentor, he was in a total happy mood with some of his family members and relations. After the formal welcoming of the pupils, Ojy Onwukwe took time to introduce the former pupils to their teacher once again. One after the other, they came and gave the teacher a hug with smiles.
After the introductions, came the presentation of kola nuts from Mr Azike himself to his “children”. He blessed the kola nuts and they were shared among the visitors and some other friends and family members who joined the event.
After a long time of praying, blessing and thanksgiving to God by both parties, Mr Uzoma Onyeari formally presented a cash gift the ex-pupils came with. Mr Azike was so much moved by the special gesture exhibited so far and he took time again and prayed for the success of the ex-pupils whom he described as his children.
At the end of the eventful visit, group pictures were taken and each of the visitors snapped a personal picture with their former teacher. Several ex-pupils of Hilltop Primary School Uba Umuaka who could not make it to the event include Mr Chikere Smart Okoro, Scholastica Egwuogu and Maria Eriri.
When the video coverage of the event went viral the next day after the visit, some others who passed through the hands of the great teacher regretted their absence for not being a part of the event. Prince Debo Ojinnaka, a German based former pupil of Hilltop Primary School requested for a “better opportunity where many of us would be a part of the event.” Dr Uche Oguike, a London based ex-pupil also expressed his determination to be a part of the event any other time the need arises.
