Eze Ojinnaka, Akalites condemn murder of Hausa suya sellers.
2 min readThe gruesome murder of some Hausa businessmen by yet to be identified gunmen who reside in Umuaka town has continued to attract condemnation from far and wide. Immediately the unfortunate incident happened on Good Saturday, a day after Good Friday, the video of the killings went viral and many people started to condemn the attack on various whatsapp platforms.
The chairman of Umuaka Council of Traditional Rulers, Eze Caesar Duruegbusuo, the Ozo Anuo of Amazano, after hearing the incident, granted a video interview to Umuaka Times where he condemned the murder in strongest terms and appealed for calmness among the people of the town and the Hausa community in the state. In the interview, the royal father exonerated Umuaka people from the act because according to him, the victims have been living in peace with their host community for over 20 years. He furthered asked the authorities to investigate more into the act because there were reports that the gunmen also stole some items from a nearby shop before zooming off the scene.
The newly crowned Eze Ojinnaka the Forth, HRH Henry Izuchukwu Ojinnaka, while condemning the act, issued a press statement dated April 6, 2021 described the murder as “shocking and highly condemnable.” In the press statement which a copy of it was made available to Umuaka Times, Eze Ojinnaka expressed his sincere condolence to the bereaved families and finally appealed to Akalites and their tenants to go about their normal business in peace.
Many other individuals from the community also described the incident as setting a dangerous pedestal for Umuaka people and their foreign tenants.
