3 min read

It was a great day of joy and celebration in Obinwanne Umuaka Autonomous Community last week precisely on Sunday 19 May 2024, as an exclusive chieftaincy installation ceremony took place in the community. Mr Romanus Ukasoanya and his son Mr Julius Ukasoanya, two prominent indigenes of Obinwanne were bestowed with a chieftaincy title respectively. The official kickoff time of the event was by 2pm and before the time, several prominent men and women of the community, Obinwanne Council of Chiefs as well as their beautiful lolos and others were already seated at the ever busy Chukwujiekwe Palace of HRM Eze Justin Uzoma Ezeala who bestowed the chieftaincy titles on father and son.

Before the main event kicked off, the Obinwanne Council of Chiefs had first held a crucial meeting with her royal father on how best to navigate the affairs of Obinwanne Umuaka Autonomous Community towards positive directions and change. Shortly after the meeting and other activities that followed the event, time for the never before seen event arrived. Chief Vitus Arikem, an ace MC and a member of the palace protocols announced to the guests that it was time for the installation of the chieftaincy titles on father and son. The first person who was invited to climb up to the palace chambers where HRM Eze Justin Ezeala was seated alongside with his Traditional Prime Minister, Chief Celestine Agu (Ekwembiriba Umuaka) was the father, Mr Romanus Ukasoanya.

As the Onye Eze prepared to crown Mr Romanus Ukasoanya, Chief Celestine Agu who stood by the side of Onye Eze, handed over the red chieftaincy cap, hand fan and other items one after the other to Onye Eze as the chieftaincy installation ritual was being performed. Eze Justin Ezeala after making a remarkable speech about the chieftaincy title pronounced Mr Romanus Ukasoanya the Akunesiobike 1of Obinwanne Umuaka and put the prestigious chieftaincy red cap on his head. A new chief has indeed joined the league of Obinwanne Council of Chiefs in the person of Chief Mr Romanus Ukasoanya, the Akunesiobike (wealth solidifies confidence) 1of Obinwanne Umuaka.

After the installation, Chief Romanus Ukasoanya stood up and for the first time in his life, received a chieftaincy royal greeting from HRM Eze Justin Ezeala. He also went round and shook the hands of other chiefs at the event.

The next person who climbed to the royal chambers of Chukwujekwu Palace was Mr Julius Ukasoanya, the son of Chief Romanus Ukasoanya.

Just like father like son, the Onye Eze made a brief speech after the ace MC, Chief Vitus Arikem had called out Mr Julius Ukasoanya to receive his own chieftaincy title. Chief Celestine Agu again passed the red cap to Onye Eze and on behalf of the power conferred on him as the royal father of the community; Mr Julius Ukasanya was pronounced a chief by his royal father as the Mmirioma 1 of Obinwanne. Immediately after the pronouncement by His Royal Majesty, he automatically became Chief Julius Ukasoanya, the Mmirioma 1 of Obinwanne. As his father did, he first received a royal handshake from Eze Justin Ezeala before going round to shake the hands of his colleagues.

The focus now shifted to the home of the newly crowned chiefs where chiefs, guests and many others were entertained and treated to a highly organized reception.
