Fear grips Nigerians as fake alcohol kills over 30 persons in India.

1 min read

A report from India which reached Umuaka Times and the Nigerian media space last week had it that about 34 consumers of alcoholic drinks suspected to be fake had been confirmed dead by the local authorities in the state of Tamil Nadu. The story also went further to confirm that not less than 100 persons were also rushed to different hospitals after consuming the same alcohol.

Nigerians who drink alcohol and other beverages last week expressed some concerns after hearing the news. The reason was because several times the Nigerian Police Force and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), have at many times burst the hideouts of some people suspected to be producing fake drinks. In May 2024, an illegal factory producing such drinks was shut down by NAFDAC for not meeting up with official requirements. According to the news Umuaka Times monitored last week, the entire products the agency ceased were estimated at N50 million.

Also in Agege, a suburb of Lagos, in the month of March 2024, another fake drinks factory was discovered by the police and the culprits behind the factory were all arrested.

NAFDAC on her own part in 2023, discovered yet another fake factory in Aba Abia State where fake drinks are manufactured.

For now, the general public is worried as nobody who the toxic drinks may send to his or her early grave.
