Felio Mmeremikwu laid to rest amidst tears.
2 min readOn Tuesday November 19, 2024, the remains of late Miss Felistas Urenwune Mmeremikwu popularly known as Felio were committed to mother earth after she had a long battle with some undisclosed illness.
Those who attended the funeral ceremonies of the late Felio totally testified that the lady during her lifetime was peaceful, easy going and a friend to all. As one woman observed, “Felio never injured anyone during her lifetime.”
In the morning of the day of her burial, Umuisii youths, men and women as well as other friends and family members gathered at the Mmeremikwu family compound to pay their last respect to the daughter they so much loved. It did not take enough time for them to begin a journey to Umuaka Community Hospital’s mortuary in order to bring home her corpse. About an hour later, those who went to the mortuary arrived with her corpse in a white SUV ambulance. Immediately they arrived, few minutes later the remains of Miss Felio Mmeremikwu were laid in state for people to pay their last respect to her. The lying in state did not last for long as the MC for the event announced that it was time for the requiem Mass at St Mary’s Catholic Church.
About 5 minutes later, off the mourners took to the venue of the requiem Mass. The priests did not waste time to begin the celebration of the Mass as the church auditorium was almost full. As the Mass began, the officiating priest talked about the dead and the living and described Felio as someone whom the people have confirmed of her dedication to the things of God. He prayed to God to grant her soul an eternal rest.
In less than 2 hours when the Mass came to an end, the congregation which was largely made up of the members of the choir of St, Mary’s Catholic Church Umuaka, Queens of 1990, a group of Old Girls Association that graduated from the school in 1990 and Umuezeala Uba men, women and youths set for a journey back home for interment.
At the Mmeremikwu family compound, the Queens of 1990, the choristers from St Mary’s Catholic Church and some others proceeded to the graveside where the priest made the last prayers, requests and rituals according to Roman Catholic funeral rites.
In about 40 minutes or more, the remains of Miss Felistas Felio Urenwune Mmeremikwu, an easy going fellow, a tailor and fashion designer as well as a member of the choir at St Mary’s Church Umuaka lay buried after decades of struggles and successes in life. May the lord grant the soul of the lady known as Felio eternal rest.
