G-86 celebrates, discusses way forward for members.

The highly decorated banquet hall of Roselife Hotel and Suites Owerri on Friday February 6th 2023, was a testimony that something great and incredible was about to take place in the capital city of Imo State. Something of remarkable substance indeed took place on the said date. The G-86, a group of old boys who graduated from High School Umuaka in the year 1986 was indeed holding an event at the banquet hall of the popular hotel. The event was the annual get-together of the group and its general meeting as well as a gala night.
The group which boasts of top personalities like Dr Perry Ekwunazu and a host of other high profile old boys was able to pull top politicians, captains of industry and successful businessmen to the event. By the time the event kicked off, all members had all seated and the chairman of the occasion, Dr Perry Ekwunazu who was the Senior Prefect in 1986, took the microphone and called for an opening prayers. After the prayers which was said by a pastor who is also a member of the group named Ifeanyi Onuegbu, the chairman of the occasion welcomed all the members and made his opening speech. In his speech, Dr Ekwunazu who is a politician, businessman and a world class trained pharmacist thanked the members for all the individual successes most of them have recorded. He ascribed their success to be as a result of their steadfastness and deep commitment.
On the other hand, Dr Ekwunazu told the audience in simple terms: “We have achieved our individual successes, now is the time for us to achieve collective successes.” He further told his fellow classmates especially the new team the group was going to elect that night.
As every group has its good and sad stories, the famous G-86 Old Boys Association High School Umuaka Njaba LGA Imo State is not left out. The SP, announced to the audience that they would observe a minute silence for the repose of the souls of 17 members of the group who have so far died. Their names of the 17 fallen great members were called as the gathering observed a minute silence.
The master of the ceremony Mr Emma Nwachukwu formally Nzerem announced that one of the members of the group by name, Anselam Nnaji (Uzo B) would present the keynote address for the event. Nnaji who is a chieftain of PDP in Isu LGA came to the high table and presented the keynote address. Also Professor Cosmos Anyanwu presented a paper which centered on how to invest in agriculture. He appealed to his former classmates to start looking into agriculture.
As the prof was delivering is lecture, many members of the organization joined via Zoom network. One of such personalities was Mr Jude Romanus, formally Jude Eze who lives in Germany. After the lecture, the group went outside and took several group pictures and came back to the banquet hall again to deliberate on some sensitive matters. New officials were also elected before the gala night started.
The 2022 get together and annual general meeting of G-86 was something highly remarkable to the extent that those who missed it really missed a lot. Umuaka Times was the official newspaper of the event.
