German Akalite to play for Germany; Indicates interest to play for Nigeria.
2 min readIf plans already in motion work out as positively anticipated, Umuaka will soon have an “African oyibo” girl who will be playing for the junior national female football team otherwise known as Falconets. Born of a German mother and a Nigerian father, 15 year old Miss Carla Jenete Okoro has declared her patriotic intentions to play for her fatherland Nigeria on international football engagements under the junior team settings.
While speaking with the German correspondents of Umuaka Times last week, Jenete (go and verify) in an exclusive interview told Umuaka Times a little about her football career. “I’m a striker but I can also play left and right wings and centre back. I started at the age of 5 at the club known as “Berliner TSC” and played with it until I was 12. I played with boys all the time from 5-12 years of my career. I switched to “Blau Weiß Berolina mitte and played in the highest league with girls.”
In order to demonstrate her football skills, Jenete did what many girls wound never attempt due to fear of injuries; for her to achieve the maximum of her career, when she turned 14, she moved to all boys’ team called “Rot weiss viktoria Mitte”. Till date, Jenete still plays in the top Berlin league with boys and she has never been intimidated.
While holding talks with Umuaka Times correspondents, she discloses thus. “At the age of 14, I also earned a second game right at Hertha BSC, where I played in the U17 Bundesliga this season (with girls that are one year older than I am). This is her current status.
On her other football achievements and records, Jenete concluded in this manner. “I’ve also been training for a few weeks with the 1st women’s team of Hertha BSC, which plays in the 3rd league and will also play in the next season apart from the boys.”
The Umuaka Times correspondents were so eager to understand why she had decided to play alongside with some boys, she gave a more explanation. “Finally, to understand it, as a girl in Germany you are allowed to play on a boys’ team and on a girls’ team as well. So my boys club is “Rot Weiß Viktoria Mitte” and my girls club is “Hertha BSC”.
AS it stands today, Carla Jenete Okoro is one of the top players in the Berlin Under19 state FC, a position her football skills meritoriously earned her. As the football career and successes of Jeneta keep rising to the top, she has been invited for the German Under19 national football team. This will indeed expose her to more international engagements in the soccer field.
Highly skillful Miss Carla Jenete Okoro who hails from Umuele Autonomous Community is the daughter of German based Akalite Mr Benjamin Okoro popularly known as Benja.
