2 min read

As early as 8 am on Friday 24 May 2024, the Amakor youths, Age Grade and other groups and individuals in the community had already gathered at the mortuary of Umuaka Community Hospital with the purpose of escorting their late brother, father and Uncle Mr Cyriacus Ifeanyichukwu Meremikwu home for a befitting burial. In less than 30 minutes, the family members led by Mr Ebuka Meremikwu, the first son of the deceased and others had already settled with the mortuary attendants and the motorcade took off to Amakor. As “culture” demands, they had to follow Afor Umuaka and joined Orlu Owerri Express Road. When they got to the Orlu Owerri Express Road, they temporarily blocked the road in order to make sure that all of the vehicles and motorcycles in the motorcade would have the right of way.

Trust “motorcycle boys”! They were busy displaying their driving skills and making sure they attracted enough attention to their credit. In about 10 minutes time, they moved again and did the same in front of A-Line before heading straight to Amakor community. When they got to Amakor the home town of Chairman, they first went to his shop where he was doing business before arriving his family compound. The youths were singing and dancing as they followed the motorcade bumper to bumper. The whole process was like a carnival.

When they finally arrived the family compound, the MC had to take enough time to control them so as to allow other programs of the day to hold. At last, they youths relaxed and the body of the deceased was taken inside a particular room for lying in state. In a special order, the immediate family members and extended family members were the first to visit the lying in state and pay their last respect also. After that had been done, others were called to do the same until the wife was finally called to go and pay her husband the final respect.

Now was time for other ceremonies. The corpse was brought outside for prayers which were conducted by church Chairman used to attend known as Divine Power Deliverance Ministry of Isu Njaba. After a long sermon and prayers, the corpse of the late Mr Cyriacus Ifeanyichukwu Meremikwu was laid to rest for eternal glory, bringing to an end a lifespan that lasted for 68 years.

May his soul rest in peace.
